Commonwealth Games 2026: Nine games, including cricket and hockey, axed

Commonwealth Games (CGF) and Glasgow The Commonwealth Games announced on Tuesday that nine sports, including cricket and hockey, have been dropped from the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

The sports that have been missed from the 2022 Games include cricket, triathlon, diving, hockey, squash, badminton and rugby sevens.

At the Commonwealth Games Para Support will once again be fully integrated and only six para sports have been included in the programme.

Britain and Australia have hosted five of the past six editions of the Games but Sadlier believes a slimmed-down model would increase the potential pool of future hosts.

The Commonwealth Games are held every four years and mainly involve countries and territories that were once subject to the British Empire.
