SAN CRISTÓBAL DE LAS CASAS.- A armed group ambushed and shot the mayor of ChilónMario Hernández Aguilar, of the Labor Party (PT), when he was traveling with his vehicle and collaborators on a country roadbut managed to survive, local authorities reported.
Without going into further details, they explained that the attack occurred on the stretch of road that links the communities of Yaalton and Bachajón.
On June 2, Hernández Aguilar won the mayoral election driven by the PTafter several periods in which the PRI monopolized the mayor’s office of Chilón.

Today, minutes after the attack, the mayor wasand transferred to the municipal seatwhere he was treated, but had no injuries.
“Fortunately was unharmed by said attack. The authorities are carrying out the pertinent investigations, since one of the objectives of this government is guarantee peace and tranquility for the entire population in general, being a strong commitment of our mayor,” reported the City Council.

The attack occurred on Sunday nightwhen Hernández Aguilar returned to the municipal seat, after having visited some communities.
The mayor filed a complaint with the Prosecutor’s Office of Indigenous Justice for these events.
Day of attacks in Chiapas
It was revealed that Mayor Hernández Aguilar Buenos signed the commitment for peace in Chiapas and he is one of the councilors of the Bachajón Mission, where Jesuits participate.
Furthermore, the attack occurred yesterday, Sunday, same day that armed hitmen ended the life of priest Marcelo Pérez in San Cristóbal de las Casas, Chiapas, an entity where violence has intensified.
