Hawaiian Airlines has proudly unveiled the first of three uniquely themed aircraft designs as part of a special celebration for the highly anticipated release of Moana 2, coming from Walt Disney Animation Studios, set to premiere on November 28.
The striking new design on an Airbus A330 prominently features the courageous wayfinder Moana alongside the shape-shifting demigod, Maui, and the lively, small-but-menacing Kakamora. Additionally, a vibrant “Welcome Voyagers” message is displayed to warmly greet all guests who embark on their next adventure onboard this beloved national carrier.
“As modern-day voyagers, we pride ourselves in sharing our rich host culture and ensuring our guests experience unparalleled comfort and breathtaking discovery while traveling with us across the vast Pacific Ocean,” conveyed Hawaiian Airlines director of brand and culture, Alisa Onishi.
“Following the resounding success of our initial collaboration centered around ‘Moana,’ we are truly honored to reintroduce Moana, Maui, and their adventurous companions to our esteemed guests traveling between Hawaiʻi and diverse destinations in Asia, Oceania, the U.S. continent, and throughout the Hawaiian Islands.”
Next month, Hawaiian Airlines will delight fans by unveiling two additional custom character decals that will don an Airbus A321neo, serving select U.S. markets and the idyllic Cook Islands, as well as a Boeing 717 aircraft that operates inter-island flights across the Hawaiian Islands.
The overhead luggage bins on all three Moana 2-themed aircraft will be artistically adorned with characters and captivating artwork from the film, creating an immersive travel experience. Guests will also have the opportunity to engage in a bespoke Moana 2 augmented reality experience, set to debut alongside the reveal of the second livery. These aircraft will be operating on Hawaiian’s regular U.S. domestic routes, as well as international destinations including American Samoa, Australia, the Cook Islands, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, and Tahiti through March 2025.
The animated musical sequel will reunite fans with Moana (voiced by Auli‘i Cravalho) and her energetic partner Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson) three years after their last adventure. The duo is set to embark on an expansive new voyage, joined by a diverse crew of unlikely seafarers. When Moana receives an unexpected summons from her wayfinding ancestors, she must brave the perilous seas of Oceania, navigating through treacherous waters for an adventure unlike anything she has ever encountered before.

To celebrate this enchanting collaboration, Hawaiian Airlines will surprise passengers on the inaugural flights of the A330, A321, and Boeing B717 with delightful special gifts, enhancing their journey with memorable surprises.
The airline has also launched its Navigate Your Own Adventure sweepstakes, which commenced today and will run until November 30, allowing residents in the U.S., Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and South Korea the chance to participate. Five fortunate winners—one from each market—will be awarded an impressive 500,000 HawaiianMiles.
Hawaiian Airlines honors traditional celestial navigational practices that were skillfully employed by early Polynesian voyagers by naming its aircraft after significant local birds, stars, and native plants and forests. Each of the “Moana 2” aircraft has been specially selected based on its meaningful name:
- Hōkūleʻa / Airbus A330: The Hawaiian name for Hawaiʻi’s zenith star Arcturus, as well as the renowned Hawaiian voyaging canoe.
- Koa / Airbus A321neo: Acacia koa, a native tree used for crafting traditional Polynesian voyaging canoes.
- ʻElepaio / Boeing 717: A native Hawaiian bird revered as the guardian of canoe builders.
