Demon Doings
In their recent exhibition match, DePaul delivered an impressive performance, decisively defeating Lewis by a score of 93-41 at McGrath-Phillips Arena on Friday, October 18. This marks DePaul’s second exhibition against a Division II opponent within a short span of 10 days to kick off the 2024-25 season.
Demonstrating their dominance, the Blue Demons outshone their rivals in the paint, with standout efforts from Graduate forward Jorie Allen. Allen, a preseason All-BIG EAST Honorable Mention, recorded an outstanding double-double, tallying 19 points and 13 rebounds while showcasing her sharpshooting with a 53-percent field goal accuracy. Contributing to the victory, junior transfer Meg Newman delivered a remarkable effort with 12 points, hitting five of her six attempts, alongside seven rebounds and a team-high five assists.
Against the Flyers, DePaul exhibited their signature ‘DePaul Ball’ style, applying relentless pressure and maintaining a fast pace that converted 20 turnovers into a remarkable 30 points. A total of 12 out of 15 active Blue Demons made it onto the scoresheet, highlighting the team’s offensive depth and versatility.
Winona State Notes
Last season, Winona State finished with an overall record of 10-18, achieving nine of those victories in the competitive Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC). The Warriors bring back a strong contingent, including seven returning letterwinners, and are led by their top scorer Olivia Gamoke, who averaged 9.4 points per game in the 2023-24 season.
Head coach Ana Wurtz embarks on her third season at the helm of her alma mater. Under her guidance, she has helped develop 21 all-conference players and nurtured a pair of All-America honorees, reflecting her commitment to building a competitive and talented program.
