According to him, Pertamina has shown positive performance and is committed to maintaining energy security, in fact, currently this state-owned energy company continues to transform into a world-class oil and gas company.
“Energy self-sufficiency, I have optimism for Pertamina because now it has transformed into a world class company,” said Eddy in Jakarta, Sunday (27/10).

As the backbone in efforts to achieve the energy self-sufficiency target, he continued, Pertamina’s performance was considered encouraging as it had implemented good business governance, including practicing and improving Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG).
“Pertamina’s various performances really support the Government’s programs in the energy sector. Even currently, 62% of oil and gas production is Pertamina’s production,” he said.
Regarding energy self-sufficiency, Eddy stated that a process is needed to achieve this target. The first thing that must be achieved is energy security, namely ensuring energy supply for national needs. At this stage, he added, it is not absolutely sourced from within the country, but can also come from foreign sources.

“For example, so far the domestic LPG supply is guaranteed, because Pertamina has tied contracts with its suppliers. Likewise, oil lifting is around 600 thousand barrels per day, the rest is through binding contracts carried out by Pertamina as well. This will ensure domestic energy guarantees are fulfilled ,” he said.
After that, he added, then energy independence can be achieved, among other things, through the energy transition process. “The process from fossil energy to renewable energy. If we manage and develop renewable energy, it can replace fossil energy, most of which we import. So while we carry out the energy transition, we will realize energy security and independence,” he said.
Thus, he continued, the various efforts that Pertamina has made are a process towards energy independence in order to realize energy self-sufficiency. This includes various breakthroughs made by Pertamina, such as the development of biofuel, petrochemical, geothermal, and carbon capture utilization and storage (CCS/CCUS). “That’s right. This is all included in efforts to be energy independent and create clean energy,” he said.

However, Eddy reminded that, in order to realize the energy self-sufficiency program, the government still needs to provide support to Pertamina, such as by strengthening capital so that it can expand to look for oil and gas sources abroad.
Apart from that, there are also incentives to carry out various business activities from various business lines. And, not only that. Eddy added that as a BUMN, Pertamina also needs regulatory support.
Regulations must also be provided, he added, because as an oil and gas company, Pertamina must take priority, for example, if there is a tender for existing oil and gas blocks, the energy BUMN must get preference to see which oil and gas blocks are worthy of further development. (Ant/N-2)

**Short Interview with Eddy, Member of Commission on Pertamina’s Role in Energy Self-Sufficiency**
**Editor**: Thank you for joining us today, Eddy. Recently, you expressed optimism about Pertamina’s efforts to support Indonesia’s energy self-sufficiency. Can you elaborate on why you believe Pertamina is on the right track?
**Eddy**: Absolutely. I believe Pertamina has shown significant positive performance, demonstrating a strong commitment to maintaining energy security. The ongoing transformation into a world-class oil and gas company sets a solid foundation for achieving our energy goals.
**Editor**: You mentioned the importance of energy security in achieving self-sufficiency. What are the key steps needed to ensure this security?
**Eddy**: The first step is ensuring a consistent energy supply for national needs. This can involve sourcing energy both domestically and internationally. For instance, Pertamina has made contracts for domestic LPG supply and maintains an oil lifting of around 600 thousand barrels per day through binding contracts, which plays a crucial role in ensuring that our energy needs are met.
**Editor**: That’s interesting. You also spoke about the importance of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. How does Pertamina incorporate these practices into their operations?
**Eddy**: Pertamina has been focusing on good business governance and enhancing ESG standards. Their commitment positively impacts government programs in the energy sector, making them a key player in achieving both economic growth and sustainable practices within the industry.
**Editor**: you mentioned a transition process from fossil energy to renewable energy. How crucial is this transition in achieving energy independence?
**Eddy**: The energy transition is vital for achieving long-term energy independence. We need to move towards renewable sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. This process is not only essential for sustainability but also aligns with global energy trends. It’s a challenging journey, but with Pertamina’s ongoing efforts, I am optimistic about the future.
**Editor**: Thank you, Eddy, for sharing your insights. It’s great to see positive developments in our energy sector.
**Eddy**: Thank you for having me. The efforts in this sector are indeed promising, and I look forward to continued progress.

**Editor**: That sounds promising. What role does the energy transition play in Pertamina’s strategy towards achieving energy independence?
**Eddy**: The energy transition is vital. Shifting from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources is a significant part of our strategy. By developing renewable energies such as biofuels, geothermal, and implementing initiatives like carbon capture and utilization, we not only work towards energy independence but also contribute to clean energy goals.
**Editor**: What support does Pertamina still need from the government to fulfill these ambitious targets?
**Eddy**: The government’s support is crucial. This includes strengthening Pertamina’s capital base, offering incentives for diverse business operations, and providing regulatory backing, especially in preferential treatment for oil and gas tenders. This way, Pertamina can expand its scope and effectively seek out new resources.
**Editor**: Thank you for sharing your insights, Eddy. It’s clear that Pertamina has an important role in shaping Indonesia’s energy future.
**Eddy**: Thank you for having me. I’m optimistic about what we can achieve with the right support and strategies in place.
