During his meeting with the head of the European People’s Party group in the European Parliament, Manfred Weber, Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly expressed his aspiration to help him quickly disburse the first tranche of the European financial package presented to Egypt, worth one billion euros, before the end of this year.
The Egyptian Prime Minister expressed his aspiration to support “Fiber” and his political group during the vote in the European Parliament in favor of the decision to approve the second tranche for Egypt worth 4 billion euros for the period 2025-2027.
According to a statement by the Egyptian Council of Ministers, the meeting between Madbouly and Manfred Weber touched on the existing cooperation between Egypt and the European Union in the field of immigration within a comprehensive framework based on linking immigration to development and addressing the root causes of illegal immigration.
The Egyptian Prime Minister stressed his country’s commitment to preventing all types of illegal immigration.
The Egyptian Prime Minister looked forward to the continued support of the European People’s Party group for the various aspects and elements of the Egyptian-European partnership during the next stage.
He pointed out that as a result of this distinguished partnership, the joint Egyptian-European investment conference was held at the end of last June in the presence of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.
The Prime Minister explained that this conference is the first major event of the new strategic partnership, and that it contributed to conveying a clear message to the European private sector that Egypt is an important destination for European investments, especially in light of the structural economic reforms that the Egyptian government has taken recently.
The European Union announced last April that it would provide Egypt with one billion euros ($1.07 billion) in short-term financial aid to support the stability of the country’s economy, as part of a larger package of 5 billion euros that will be provided in the form of loans.
Another 4 billion euros are scheduled to be allocated as long-term aid during the period from 2024 to 2027, but the bloc’s 27 member states must approve it first.
