Independence Day with the band that made ‘American Idiot’ a household name—though let’s be honest, at this point, most households have probably declared independence from anything that doesn’t involve them binge-watching their latest Netflix drama.
Now, lest we forget, these rock gods are not just resting on their laurels. Earlier this year, they gifted us their fourteenth studio album, Saviors, which has enough of that rebellious edge to make even the most well-behaved librarian feel a bit raucous. Plus, let’s give it up for the twentieth anniversary of American Idiot! That’s twenty years of songs that are practically subliminal messaging urging us to wake up and smell the coffee, or in some cases, wake up and smell the feedback! 2025 will be a special year for Herman Schueremans and his entourage, because one of the largest festivals in our country, with a rock-solid reputation far beyond, will open its doors for the fiftieth time. With another eight months to wait for the festive edition of Rock Werchter, we have already received a first gift today: Green Day will be on Friday July 4th enter the sacred meadow. Earlier this year, the fourteenth studio album was released Saviorswhich had a tasted rebellious edge and last month the American trio celebrated the twentieth anniversary of the critically acclaimed concept album American Idiot. Billie Joe Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tré Cool certainly did not sit still and will continue that trend next year. Their last visit dates back to 2022 during the Hella Mega Tour in the Sportpaleis and it has already been eleven years since they turned Rock Werchter upside down. With tons of experience in setting up a set that everyone can enjoy, Green Day is already a strong first name.
