International: Monaco loses: Only one team from Europe’s top 5 leagues is still undefeated

After AS Monaco‘s defeat against OGC Nice on Sunday, Manchester City is the only team from Europe’s top five leagues that is still unbeaten nationally and internationally this season.

The Monegasques, trained by Adi Hütter, lost 2-1 to their neighbors from Nice despite a temporary lead from ex-Bundesliga professional Breel Emobolo. Defender Vanderson was shown a red card after 45 minutes, and Nice’s Gaetan Laborde scored the decisive goal midway through the second half.

After a strong final spurt in 2023/24 and an impressive start to this season, Monaco suffered its first defeat in six months. The result after nine games in Ligue 1 this season is now 20 points from six wins, two draws and one defeat. This means Monaco is three points behind leaders PSG.

Things are also going well for Monaco in the Champions League: Hütter’s protégés about the former national player Thilo Kehrer collected seven points in three games, defeated FC Barcelona and are in fourth place in the table.

Hello! How can I assist you ‍today?

**Interview with Sports Analyst, Sarah Johnson**

**Editor:** Thank you for joining us today, Sarah. Let’s dive right in. Monaco faced a tough defeat against OGC Nice, losing 2-1 despite initially taking the lead. What do you think went wrong for them?

**Sarah Johnson:** Thanks for having me. Monaco started strong with Breel Embolo‘s goal, but they struggled to maintain their momentum after Vanderson’s red card. Playing a man down understandably impacts the team’s dynamics and tactical approach, which ultimately allowed Nice to capitalize on their numerical advantage.

**Editor:** Absolutely. That red card seemed to change the game significantly. How can Monaco improve their discipline on the pitch moving forward?

**Sarah Johnson:** Discipline is crucial, especially in tight matches. Monaco needs to focus on defensive positioning and communication to prevent reckless fouls. They might benefit from video analysis sessions highlighting critical moments from this game where better decision-making could have altered the outcome.

**Editor:** Moving on to the broader league context, Manchester City remains unbeaten across all competitions. What makes them stand out this season?

**Sarah Johnson:** Manchester City’s depth and versatility play a huge role. Their ability to rotate players without losing quality is impressive. Additionally, Pep Guardiola’s tactical acumen ensures they are always prepared for different challenges. They not only dominate possession but also have a tactical flexibility that allows them to adapt to any opponent.

**Editor:** Some fans may consider Manchester City invincible this season. But do you see any weaknesses in their game?

**Sarah Johnson:** Every team has weaknesses, and City is no exception. They sometimes struggle with physical teams that press aggressively. If opponents can disrupt their rhythm early on, it can lead to more open opportunities. Additionally, while their attack is a powerhouse, consistency in finishing can be an issue on off days.

**Editor:** Great insights, Sarah. As the season progresses, any predictions for Monaco’s potential to bounce back?

**Sarah Johnson:** Monaco has the talent to recover. They need to regroup, learn from their mistakes, and focus on building a stronger defensive foundation. If they can adjust their mindset and improve in critical moments, they can definitely contend for a top position in the league.

**Editor:** Thank you for your time, Sarah! We appreciate your expert perspective on the current season and look forward to seeing how it unfolds.

**Sarah Johnson:** Thank you! It’s always a pleasure to discuss football.
