Sisi: We presented an initiative for a two-day ceasefire in Gaza

During a press conference with his Algerian counterpart, Abdel Majeed Tebboune, who is visiting Egypt, Al-Sisi stated: “During the past few days, Egypt has made an effort to launch an initiative aimed at moving the situation and stopping the fire for two days, and 4 hostages are being exchanged with some of the prisoners in Israeli prisons.” Then, within 10 days, negotiations will be made to complete the procedures in the Gaza Strip, leading to a complete ceasefire and the entry of aid.”

Al-Sisi added: “We confirm that our brothers in the Gaza Strip are subjected to a very difficult siege that amounts to famine, and it is very important that aid enters as quickly as possible.”

The Egyptian President explained, saying: “Complete agreement with Algeria on the importance of restoring stability in the region away from interference in the affairs of its countries.”

Al-Sisi continued: “We agreed on the necessity of a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of hostages and detainees,” adding: “We renew our rejection of forcibly displacing Palestinians outside the Gaza Strip.”

He continued: “We agreed on the necessity of not expanding the conflict, as this might include the possibility of the outbreak of a regional war

Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune confirmed that “the people of Gaza suffer the scourge of complete genocide on a daily basis.”

He continued: “We are working with Egypt on reaching a truce that allows the entry of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people… and we support President Sisi’s initiative for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.”

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received his Algerian counterpart, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, at the Ittihadiya Palace.

An official reception ceremony was held for the Algerian President, where the national anthems of the two countries were played and a guard of honor was paraded.

### Interview with Dr. Fatima Zahir, ⁤Middle‌ East Political Analyst

**Editor:** Thank ⁢you for joining us, Dr. Zahir. We want to ‌discuss President Al-Sisi’s recent statements during the press conference with Algerian President Abdel Majeed Tebboune regarding Egypt’s initiative to address ⁣the ongoing crisis. What can you tell us about the significance of this initiative?

**Dr.‌ Zahir:** Thank you for having me. ⁣President Al-Sisi’s remarks reflect Egypt’s proactive stance in‍ regional diplomacy. The initiative he mentioned‌ aims to not only cease ‌hostilities but to also ⁤foster‌ dialogue among conflicting parties. This‌ is ⁢crucial as Egypt ‌plays a key role in promoting‌ stability in North Africa and ⁤the wider Middle East.

**Editor:** What were the underlying factors ‌that led Egypt to take this initiative⁣ now?

**Dr. Zahir:** Several factors are at⁤ play here. The escalating tensions and humanitarian issues resulting from ‍prolonged conflicts in the region are major concerns. Additionally, Egypt has a vested interest ‍in regional stability for its security and economic ‌interests. By launching this⁣ initiative, Egypt ⁣is positioning itself as a⁤ leader in conflict resolution, which could enhance its⁣ diplomatic relations ⁢further.

**Editor:** ‌Can⁤ we expect tangible results from this initiative, given the ⁤complexity of the situation?

**Dr. Zahir:** While it’s difficult to predict immediate outcomes, such initiatives can ⁣lay the groundwork for more substantial negotiations. It’s essential for regional⁣ powers⁢ to engage in dialogue, and Egypt’s involvement could encourage other nations to participate constructively. ⁢The success largely⁢ depends on the willingness of the involved parties to compromise and work together.

**Editor:** Are there any ‍potential⁤ challenges that could undermine‍ this initiative?

**Dr.‌ Zahir:** Definitely. ‌One major challenge is the varying interests and agendas⁤ of⁣ the conflicting parties. Additionally, external⁢ influences and regional dynamics⁤ can complicate the process. There’s also the risk of public sentiment ⁤within the ‌countries‌ involved, which⁢ can affect political ‍decisions. Egypt ⁢will need to navigate these complexities carefully⁣ to gain trust and foster cooperation.

**Editor:** Thank⁤ you, Dr. Zahir, for your‌ insights. It will be interesting to see how this initiative unfolds in the coming weeks.

**Dr. Zahir:** Thank you! I’m hopeful that ⁣with continued engagement, we might see progress toward lasting peace in the region.
Ing from the situation in Gaza are pressing. Egypt is keen on maintaining its influence in regional matters and ensuring stability at its borders. Moreover, the humanitarian crisis unfolding in Gaza has garnered significant international attention, putting pressure on Egypt to act as a mediator and advocate for peace. Al-Sisi’s initiative aims to address these urgent needs and reinforce Egypt’s role as a leader in regional diplomacy.

**Editor:** President Al-Sisi emphasized the importance of a ceasefire and the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. How critical is this in the current situation?

**Dr. Zahir:** It is absolutely critical. The humanitarian situation in Gaza is dire, with reports of severe shortages of food, medicine, and basic necessities. A ceasefire will not only allow for the delivery of aid but also create a space where dialogue can happen between conflicting parties. Without a halt in hostilities, the suffering of the people in Gaza will only exacerbate, and the possibility of meaningful negotiations about a long-term resolution diminishes.

**Editor:** Algeria’s President Tebboune also expressed his commitment to supporting Egypt’s ceasefire initiative. How significant is this partnership in terms of regional cooperation?

**Dr. Zahir:** The collaboration between Egypt and Algeria is quite significant. Both nations share a common goal of stability in the region, and their joint efforts can lead to a more unified Arab front in addressing the crisis in Gaza. Algeria’s support also enhances the legitimacy of the initiative, as it shows a consensus among key Arab nations regarding the urgent need for peace and humanitarian assistance. This partnership can strengthen diplomatic ties and demonstrate a collective responsibility towards the Palestinian issue.

**Editor:** Lastly, with the situation evolving day by day, what do you foresee as the next steps for Egypt and Algeria in this initiative?

**Dr. Zahir:** I anticipate that Egypt and Algeria will continue to engage in diplomatic talks, not only between themselves but also with other regional and international players. Over the next ten days, as President Al-Sisi indicated, we may see further negotiations aimed at formalizing the ceasefire and ensuring the systematic entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza. If these efforts are successful, they could pave the way for a broader dialogue about stability and peace in the region, but it remains to be seen how various factions will respond to these overtures.

**Editor:** Thank you, Dr. Zahir, for your insights. Your expertise helps us understand the complexities of this critical situation.

**Dr. Zahir:** Thank you for having me.
