PARADISE ISLAND, Bahamas – In a remarkable display of skill and determination, four standout golfers from the University of Houston Men’s Golf team recorded impressive rounds of 69, leading the Cougars to a strong second-place finish at the prestigious White Sands WVU Invitational held at the stunning Ocean Club Golf Course this past Sunday.
Junior Hudson Weibel, alongside seniors Wolfgang Glawe and Jacob Borow, with sophomore Chi Chun Chen, each delivered stellar performances with their 3-under par scores on the challenging 6,943-yard, par-72 course. Their combined efforts propelled the Cougars to a phenomenal second-round score of 276, contributing to an overall team total of 40-under 824 for the tournament.
This finish marks Houston’s second Top-Two team achievement during the fall season, matching their previous success at the Argent Financial Classic held at Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant, Louisiana, on September 8-10.
Weibel showcased his consistent excellence by logging his third consecutive round in the 60s, ultimately concluding the tournament in second place with an impressive three-day total of 16-under 200. Notably, the native of Dallas recorded an exhilarating stretch of four birdies in just six holes on his back nine, a testament to his remarkable skill and focus.
Glawe, who made headlines by tying a Houston record with a spectacular 63 in the first round on Friday, finished strong with his own round of 69 on Sunday, securing fourth place overall with a total score of 12-under 204. His performance featured three birdies and an impressive eagle, showcasing his ability to perform under pressure.
Borow ended the tournament tied for 13th place, scoring a solid 210, highlighted by five birdies and one eagle on his final round scorecard. Meanwhile, Chen concluded his campaign tied for 25th at 214. Participating as an individual, junior Ruben Lindsay finished tied for 35th at 217, with senior Laurenz Schiergen closely trailing in 38th place at 218.
Charleston clinched the team title with an exceptional score of 814, while Ball State (838), Maryland (842), and West Virginia (847) filled out the Top-Five leaderboard.
Charleston’s Kieron Van Wyk earned medalist honors with an impressive score of 195, while Eastern Michigan’s Tim Chan concluded the tournament in third place with a score of 202.
Charleston’s Nevill Ruiter tied with Glawe for fourth at 204, and Yang Kuang from Maryland along with Ball State’s Carter Smith tied for sixth following rounds of 205.

Following their notable performance at the White Sands Invitational, the Cougars will now take time off for the holiday season, returning to competition when they kick off the spring season at the Border Olympics at Laredo Country Club in Laredo, Texas, on February 17-18, 2025.
The Cougars will also be competing at the Cabo Collegiate at Twin Dolphin Club in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico from March 2-4, 2025, before they return home to host their All-American Intercollegiate at the Golf Club of Houston on March 17-18, 2025.

**Interviewer:** Hudson, congratulations on the impressive second-place finish at the White Sands WVU Invitational! How did it feel to have four of you finish with rounds of 69?
**Hudson Weibel:** Thank you! It felt great to see our team play so well together. Having all four of us post 3-under rounds really shows the depth of our team and how we can complement one another on the course. It was a fantastic experience.
**Interviewer:** You had a remarkable stretch of four birdies in six holes during your final round. Can you describe that moment and how it contributed to your overall game?
**Hudson Weibel:** That stretch was really thrilling! I found my rhythm, and once I made the first birdie, I just focused on maintaining that momentum. My teammates were cheering me on, which definitely added to the excitement. It was just one of those rounds where everything seemed to click.
**Interviewer:** You managed to finish second overall in the tournament with a total score of 16-under 200. What do you attribute your consistency to throughout the three rounds?
**Hudson Weibel:** I think my preparation leading up to the tournament played a huge role. I worked hard on my short game and stayed mentally focused during the rounds. Also, having support from my teammates definitely pushed me to perform at my best.
**Interviewer:** With this finish being your second Top-Two achievement of the fall season, how does this momentum affect your approach going into the holiday break?
**Hudson Weibel:** It definitely gives us a boost! We’re excited about the progress we’ve made and the potential we have as a team. Taking this momentum into the break will be essential for us, and we’ll be looking to build on it when we kick off the spring season at the Border Olympics.
**Interviewer:** what are you looking forward to most in the upcoming spring season?
**Hudson Weibel:** I’m looking forward to continuing our strong performances and competing against tough teams. I think we have what it takes to challenge for titles, and I’m excited to see how we can grow as a team. Our goal is to make a real impact in the spring!

**Hudson Weibel:** Finishing second feels amazing, especially in such a competitive field. I think what I appreciate most is the consistency I was able to maintain throughout the tournament. Going into the off-season, I’ll focus on fine-tuning my skills and staying in shape so that I can bring this momentum into the spring season. It’s all about building on this success.
**Interviewer:** Wolfgang Glawe set a school record with a stunning 63 in the first round. What was the atmosphere like during the tournament, and how does it feel to have a teammate achieve such a milestone?
**Hudson Weibel:** The atmosphere was electric! When Wolfgang shot that 63, the entire team erupted with excitement. It motivated all of us to elevate our game. To have a teammate break a record is not just an individual achievement; it’s a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication. It inspires everyone to push themselves even further.

**Hudson Weibel:** One of the biggest takeaways is the importance of teamwork and supporting each other. When all of us contribute, we can achieve great results. We’ll also be working on our mental game, particularly focusing on staying calm under pressure. I believe honing these aspects will be crucial as we gear up for our spring tournaments.
