Apple Cuts iPhone 16 Production by 10 Million Units Amidst Slower Sales

Jakarta

Sale iPhone 16 series doesn’t seem to be as good as Apple’s hopes. Just over a month after its launch, Apple began cutting production of the iPhone 16 series by millions of units.

This information was revealed by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo in his post on Medium. He claims the models most affected by this cut are the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.

“IPhone 16 production orders were cut by around 10 million units for the 4Q24-1H25 period, with most of the models affected by the cuts being non-Pro models,” wrote Kuo in his post, as quoted from 9to5Mac, Sunday (27/10/2024).

“As a result, iPhone 16 production for 2H24 is now estimated at around 84 million units (down from the previous estimate of around 88 million),” he continued.

Kuo said the total of 10 million units cut was a combination of three quarters, namely the last quarter of 2024 and the first half of 2025. He estimates that Apple will produce 80 million iPhone units in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from 84 million in the same period last year.

Kuo predicts Apple will produce 45 million iPhone units in the first quarter of 2025 and 39 million units in the second quarter, down from 48 million and 41 million units respectively from the previous year.

Apple’s revenue in Q4 2024 will likely not be affected by this production reduction. Apple’s position was also helped by sales of the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is expected to be the best-selling variant this quarter.

The effects of cutting production on the iPhone 16 series may only be felt by Apple in the first quarter of 2025. This is because the average iPhone sales price will fall due to the presence of the iPhone SE 4.

Kuo still believes that the presence of Apple Intelligence will bring success to Apple and iPhone. However, he said that software innovation must also be accompanied by hardware innovation to significantly increase iPhone shipments.

Apple Intelligence will launch with the iOS 18.1 update next week. This service will be accessible to owners of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all variants of the iPhone 16, as well as iPads and Macs that use the M1 chip and above.

Apple’s iPhone 16 Series Production Cuts: A Comedic Take

Well, well, well, it seems that Apple’s latest iPhone 16 series launch is about as successful as a blind archer at a bullseye competition! Just over a month in, and they’ve decided to cut production by a staggering ten million units. That’s not just a bump in the road; that’s a full-on roadblock that you could trip over in the dark!

According to renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, their first mistake was putting too much hope into the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus – the iphone models that are about as popular as a mushroom in a salad. Kuo writes that production orders are being slashed down for the 4Q24 to 1H25 period. It’s as though Apple thought they were throwing an extravagant launch party, only to find out no one RSVP’d!

Now, Kuo claims iPhone 16 production for the second half of 2024 is set to hover around 84 million units, a decrease from the previously estimated 88 million. It’s a bit like throwing a massive pizza party for 100, only for two people to turn up and promptly ask for gluten-free options – welcome to modern business strategies, everyone!

Apple’s Falling Sales Forecast: What’s Going On?

Let’s break this down: Kuo predicts 80 million iPhone shipments in the fourth quarter of 2024, down from 84 million last year. Then there’s the first quarter of 2025, where he estimates a production of 45 million units and 39 million in the second quarter. Talk about a downward spiral! In the world of tech, that’s like releasing a music album that goes straight to the bargain bin!

However, in the midst of this Brave New World of bad news, Apple’s revenue might not feel the pinch quite yet! Apparently, the iPhone 16 Pro Max is expected to save the day like a superhero with a sparkling cape. But let’s face it, if iPhone sales were a superhero movie, we’d be looking at the sequel that no one asked for.

The Future in iPhones and Software Innovations

But let’s not write Apple’s obituary just yet! Kuo is confident that their upcoming Apple Intelligence, launching alongside the iOS 18.1 update, could give them a much-needed boost. Now that sounds like they’re reaching for the stars, but let’s be real – a software update alone isn’t going to fix that broken screen and dented reputation!

It’s like trying to sell a refurbished car while simultaneously promising it’ll drive like a brand new Ferrari. You have to invest in the hardware as much as the software; otherwise, it’s just not going to rev the engines like they hope it will.

As we gear up for the iPhone SE 4 releasing more variants, one has to wonder if they’ve overcooked this Apple pie. Are they playing it too safe? Or are they just accidentally creating a recipe for disaster? Whatever the case, it seems Apple finds itself in quite the pickle – and not the kind you want to get your hands on.

Stay tuned, folks! We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled on Apple’s next move. Will they bounce back, or will this be yet another hilarious chapter in the tech world’s ongoing comedy of errors?

Sales of the highly anticipated iPhone 16 series appear to be falling short of Apple’s ambitious expectations. In a surprising turn of events, just over a month following the series’ launch, Apple has announced significant cuts to its production plans for the iPhone 16 series, slashing millions of units from the initial projections.

This crucial information comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who shared his insights in a post on Medium. Kuo highlights that the models facing the most significant reductions in production numbers are the standard iPhone 16 and the iPhone 16 Plus.

“iPhone 16 production orders were cut by around 10 million units for the 4Q24-1H25 period, with most of the models affected being the non-Pro variants,” Kuo noted in his post, citing figures from 9to5Mac on Sunday (27/10/2024).

“As a result, iPhone 16 production for the second half of 2024 is now projected to be approximately 84 million units, down from an earlier estimate of about 88 million,” he elaborated.

Kuo specified that the total production cut of 10 million units spans three quarters, primarily impacting the last quarter of 2024 and the first half of 2025. He anticipates that Apple will produce around 80 million iPhone units in the fourth quarter of this year, a noticeable decline compared to the 84 million units produced during the same period last year.

Kuo predicts that Apple is expected to manufacture 45 million iPhone units in the first quarter of 2025, along with 39 million units in the subsequent quarter, which represents a decrease from the 48 million and 41 million units produced in those respective quarters the previous year.

Despite these production reductions, Apple’s revenue in Q4 2024 is unlikely to be significantly impacted, thanks in part to robust sales anticipated from the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is projected to be the best-selling model this quarter.

The ramifications of production cuts for the iPhone 16 series may only start to manifest for Apple in the first quarter of 2025. This anticipated decline is predicted as the average sales price of iPhones is expected to decrease due to the introduction of the iPhone SE 4.

Kuo remains optimistic about the potential positive impact of Apple Intelligence on the company’s future success. However, he emphasized that software innovations must be complemented by advancements in hardware to significantly boost iPhone shipments.

Set to launch alongside the iOS 18.1 update next week, Apple Intelligence will be available to users of the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, all variants of the iPhone 16, and select iPads and Macs equipped with the M1 chip and newer.
