Family of lawyer Perkins Rocha demands his freedom after two months in prison

Caracas, Oct 27 (EFE).- The family of lawyer Perkins Rocha, legal advisor of the main opposition coalition in Venezuela – the Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) -, demanded this Sunday the “full freedom” of the jurist, detained two months ago .

«We demand his full freedom because Perkins is not a criminal“Fighting for the values established in the Constitution is not a crime,” said his wife, María Costanza Cipriani, in a video published on X.

Cipriani denounced that, to date, Rocha has not been able to name a private defense and – he said – he has been “isolated from his family.”

Likewise, his son Santiago Rocha demanded, through a video published on the same social network, to be able to see Rocha, as well as his “immediate release.”

“The release of political prisoners (…) corresponds to all Venezuelans, because all good Venezuelans have been deprived of our freedoms,” he added.

On August 29, Cipriani reported that her husband, one of the main collaborators of the opposition leader María Corina Machado and Edmundo González Urrutia, PUD candidate in the July 28 presidential elections, was accused of five crimes, including “terrorism”.

The jurist was also charged with “treason, conspiracy, criminal association and instigation of hatred,” said Cipriani, who said that he was “presented at a hearing with the assistance of a public defender” and that he was denied “his right to private defense.

The Vente Venezuela (VV) party, led by Machado, called “for justice and the release” of Rocha and other activists detained since the political crisis broke out in the country after the presidential elections.

«We cannot allow injustice and silence to be the norm. “Together, we call for justice and the release of all those unjustly detained,” he added in a post on X.
