The developments in the upgrade program for the P-3B Orion naval cooperation aircraft, which the Navy has been waiting to receive for years, are fast-paced.
In particular, today Friday October 25, 20204, the case file concerning the controversial program to upgrade the four aircraft for the Navy, which was signed by the SYRIZA government in 2015, was forwarded to the Parliament.
However, in order for the Parliament to investigate this case, a request for the establishment of a preliminary committee must be submitted, submitted by at least 30 MPs, and then approved by the plenary.
The P-3B ORION case file concerns:
1) Former Prime Minister Alexios Tsipras
2) Former Minister of National Defense Panagiotis Kameno
3) Former Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikolaos Kotzias
4) Former Deputy Minister of Interior and Administrative Reconstruction Ioannis Panousis
5) Former Deputy Minister of Economy, Infrastructure, Shipping and Tourism Theodoros Dritsa.
When the relevant contract was signed in 2015, at a cost of 500 million euros, the original schedule called for the delivery of the first aircraft in 2019, with the next three to be received by the Navy from 2020 to 2022.
However, the first modernized P-3B ORION has not yet been delivered, and as it has become known, the program risks being “on the rocks”.
The modernization program of the P-3B ORION was under the microscope of justice after the indictment of the retired Admiral of the Navy Panagiotis Stamatis. A point of investigation is expected to be, among other things, the complaint that the contract does not provide for clauses and legal responsibility for the unsuccessful completion of the program.
