Stade Brestois: The Champions League Spoilsport!

Well, well, well! Stade Brestois is better at spoiling parties than a kid with a peanut allergy at a birthday bash. They’ve donned their superhero capes and delivered two stunning victories right out of the Champions League playbook! An away win against the Austrian champions Sturm Graz (2-1) and a demolition job against the vice-champions RB Salzburg (0-4) has surely given the footballing world reason to sit up and take notice. Of course, the real challenge has just started, and the crowds in Roudourou Stadium are about to get their money’s worth!

Lees-Melou Responds to Wirtz

Now, let’s chat about the clash against Bayer Leverkusen, the German juggernauts who are quite the force after last season’s undefeated Bundesliga run, German Cup triumph, and a Europa League final appearance. No big deal, right? But lo and behold, our beloved Brestois turned up at Roudourou, raised their heads high, and managed to sting the Germans with a 1-1 draw!

It was a spectacle of tactical football, yet the match began with a dash of déjà vu – Wirtz put Bayer ahead with a cheeky little number that had the fans in stitches—but the kind where you laugh so hard you almost cry because it hurts! Thankfully, our hero, Lees-Melou, didn’t read the script and equalized with a sublime volley that had everyone wondering if he was rehearsing for a Cirque du Soleil audition! One moment of brilliance, and suddenly, it was game on!

Dominant but Sterile After the Break

Now, let’s talk second half—Brestois strutted onto the pitch like peacocks, but alas, with all their hard work, they still couldn’t shake the German net. You know the feeling: you’ve made all the right moves at the party but still stand alone sipping your soda. Lees-Melou, Camara, and Baldé threw caution to the wind and sent wave after wave of attacks toward Bayer’s goal. But it was like trying to break a piñata with a wet noodle! Despite the offensive onslaught and a deserved point, they just couldn’t find that breakthrough. But hey, a point against such impressive opposition isn’t too shabby, is it?

With this valuable point, Stade Brestois now has 7 points in the bag—who knew their counter was ticking so delightfully? And with five group matches still left to sail through, they’re on a promising path towards the round of 16. Grab your popcorn, folks; this Champions League ride is just getting started!

The Ranking

And, let’s not forget! We’ll be updating those all-important standings so you can see how our brave Ty Zefs—and other teams—stack up against their competitors in this thrilling Champions League adventure.

Stade Brestois continues to play spoilsport in the Champions League! Stunning by signing two victories in the first two outings in its history on the continental scene, against Sturm Graz (2-1) Austrian champion then RB Salzburg (0-4) Austrian vice-champion, the Ty Zefs still saw adversity getting tougher this Wednesday for the 3rd day of the competition.

Lees-Melou responds to Wirtz

Bayer Leverkusen, German champion undefeated throughout last season in the Bundesliga, winner of the German Cup, and finalist of the Europa League, appeared on the lawn of the Roudourou stadium, in Guingamp, against the Brestois . In this opposition between two teams victorious in their first two matches, the Stadium stood up to the Germans by obtaining a draw (1-1). After a balanced start to the match, Eric Roy’s players conceded the opening at the heart of a Bayer highlight (23rd, Wirtz). But, more biting after this goal, the Brestois logically equalized thanks to a sublime volley from Lees-Melou upon receiving a cross from Camara at the entrance to the penalty area.

Dominant but sterile after the break

Masters of the game and intentions in the second period, Stade Brestois unfortunately did not manage to shake the German net despite numerous attempts in front of the Bayer goal. Lees-Melou, Camara or Baldé (87th) notably brought a big danger on the opposing cage. Thanks to this new point, deserved and valuable, the Stade Brestois counter continues to tick. With 7 points, the Ty Zefs are moving forward, once again, towards a possible qualification for the round of 16 of the competition while there are still five matches to play in the league phase.
