Several explosions shook the sky this Saturday in the center and east of Tehran, in Iran, when that country’s air defense system began to repel Israeli attacks.
“Right now shots are being heard from the air defense system in the center of Tehran,” reported the Tasnim agency, linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
The Entekhab newspaper published a video in which strong explosions were seen in the sky from what it indicated was “continued defense activity” in the east of the capital.
This would be the second wave of the announced Israeli attack against Iran in retaliation for the bombardment with some 180 missiles on October 1, which in turn was a response for the death of several of Tehran’s allies.
“No missiles or attacks have hit any Guard military base in the west and southwest of Tehran,” said Tasnim, citing anonymous security sources.
“The sounds (of explosions) were due to the actions of the Army’s defense systems in three locations around Tehran against Israeli military action,” he added.
Previously, the Fars agency, also linked to the Revolutionary Guard, had reported that there had been attacks against several military bases in the west and southwest of Tehran, without offering more details.
For their part, Tehran’s relief services stated that there have been no incidents in the capital that require their assistance, while sources at the capital’s two airports assured that flights continue normally.
Israel announced this morning that it has begun attacks against Iranian military targets in response to Iranian actions in recent months.
“In response to months of continuous attacks by the Iranian regime against the State of Israel, the Israel Defense Forces are currently carrying out precise strikes against military targets in Iran,” confirmed a statement from Israeli Army spokesman Daniel Hagari.

Interview with Dr. Amir Reza, Middle East Security Analyst
Editor: Thank you for joining us today, Dr. Reza. We want to discuss the recent air defense responses in Tehran following reported Israeli attacks. Can you tell us what occurred this past Saturday?
Dr. Reza: Thank you for having me. This Saturday, there were indeed significant explosions in central and eastern Tehran as Iran’s air defense systems were activated in response to incoming threats, reported to be from Israeli airstrikes. The Tasnim agency highlighted that residents could hear shots from the defense systems, indicating a tense atmosphere in the city.
Editor: How significant is this incident in the context of Iran-Israel relations?
Dr. Reza: This is a pivotal moment. It underscores the escalating tensions in the region, especially given the longstanding adversarial dynamic between Iran and Israel. The activation of Iran’s air defense systems signifies not only a response to perceived threats but also a demonstration of military readiness. Such incidents could lead to further escalations and provoke more aggressive military strategies from both sides.
Editor: What does this mean for the civilian population in Tehran?
Dr. Reza: The impact on civilians can be severe. The sights and sounds of military operations create anxiety and fear among the population. Moreover, frequent military responses can lead to a cycle of retaliation that ultimately compromises civilian safety and stability. In addition, the economic implications are dire, as ongoing conflicts can deter foreign investment and result in drops in tourism.
Editor: Given the current geopolitical climate, how should the international community react?
Dr. Reza: The international community should prioritize dialogue and diplomacy to ease tensions. Support for a framework that encourages communication between Iran and Israel is essential. It’s also important to address the broader issues in the region, such as military presence and nuclear proliferation, in order to foster a lasting peace.
Editor: Thank you, Dr. Reza, for your insights on this critical situation.
Dr. Reza: Thank you for having me. It’s crucial to stay informed about developments in the region.
Ess. Both countries have been exchanging hostile actions for years, but the recent retaliatory measures suggest a worrying escalation could be on the horizon.
Editor: The reports indicate this was not the first incident of its kind. Can you elaborate on the background that led to these latest developments?
Dr. Reza: Certainly. The situation stems from a series of provocations, including the recent Iranian missile strikes that targeted key positions in Syria, which the Israelis viewed as direct threats to their security. Israel’s attacks this past Saturday were framed as retaliation for these earlier actions. It’s a cycle of aggression that both sides seem to be caught in, raising concerns about potential broader conflict.
Editor: There’s mention of no casualties reported and normal flight operations continuing in Tehran. How does that play into the narrative of these military exchanges?
Dr. Reza: This is an interesting aspect. The lack of reported casualties could suggest that both sides are, to some extent, exercising restraint—focusing on strategic military targets rather than civilian areas. However, the very fact that defense systems had to be deployed speaks to the persistent threat and the high stakes involved. Each side is likely testing the boundaries of assertiveness while aiming to avoid an all-out war.
Editor: what should we be looking out for in the coming days? Any indicators of how this situation might evolve?
Dr. Reza: Moving forward, we should closely monitor any follow-up military operations from Israel and Iran’s responses. Increased rhetoric from officials on both sides will also be telling. An escalation in military activity or further air defense deployments could heighten tensions significantly. Diplomatic efforts—or the lack thereof—will be key in determining if this situation de-escalates or spirals out of control.
Editor: Thank you for your insights, Dr. Reza. We appreciate you shedding light on this complex and evolving situation.
Dr. Reza: Thank you for having me.
