The management of Slovácko decided to dismiss Roman West from the post of head coach, who replaced Martin Svědík at the club in June. Along with him, fitness coach Aleš Buzek is leaving the club with immediate effect, the team will be temporarily led by assistant Jan Palinek.
“We believed that this connection would work and that the team would be able to improve in terms of results and performance. However, at the moment we feel that the situation is not optimal, and therefore we have decided to dismiss Roman West. Until the position of head coach is filled, he will lead team assistant Jan Palinek,” stated the director of the club from Uherské Hradiště, Petr Pojezný.
West took over Slovácko before the season after Martin Svědík, until then he had led the youngsters there since the winter and celebrated salvation with them from hopelessly last position. With “A” West collected 16 points in 12 rounds, had the same balance of four wins, draws and defeats. However, the team scored only eight goals, which is the fewest in the competition after the last České Budějovice.
In the last league season, Slovácko took 6th place. Previously, under Svědík’s management, they were fourth twice, which was a historical maximum, and in addition won the domestic cup for the first time and played the first group of the European Conference League.

Slovácko’s Coaching Conundrum: Out with the West!
Well, well, well! The wheels are turning fast in the managerial merry-go-round of Slovácko, and guess who’s just been unceremoniously flung off? That’s right, Roman West is no longer at the helm of the beloved club! A swift exit for the head coach who only took the reins in June, but let’s be honest, it sounds like he just might have lost his way more than a tourist without Google Maps.
Basic Math or Just a Bad Coaching Spell?
So let’s break this down, shall we? Roman inherited a team that once strutted around the league akin to peacocks under the regime of Martin Svědík. His predecessor found glory in the sixth place, twirling their way to cup victories and European escapades. West, however, could only muster 16 points from 12 rounds before the club’s brass decided they’d had enough of the lackluster performances. Four wins, four draws, and four losses… it’s almost poetic, like an unfinished haiku about mediocrity.
And as for goals? Oh dear! Eight measly goals! The team scored fewer than a cat with two broken legs trying to jump on a fence. It’s no wonder the management decided to act—this isn’t a petting zoo, after all! They need a bit of goal-scoring magic, not an ongoing episode of “When Coaches Go Wrong.”
Departure Suitcase Already Packed
In the wake of West’s dismissal, fitness coach Aleš Buzek is also heading for the exits. It seems there’s been a complete clear-out, folks! It’s much like watching your roommate finally decide to throw out that 2-year-old pizza in the fridge—it’s just a matter of time before the stench becomes unbearable!

The Temporary Savior: Jan Palinek
In a moment reminiscent of a soap opera cliffhanger, assistant coach Jan Palinek is temporarily stepping into the big chair. Bless his heart—he’s got his work cut out for him! It’s akin to being thrown into the deep end of the pool with floaties that just won’t inflate. What’s that saying? “You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make it score goals!”
What Now for Slovácko? A Glimmer of Hope?
So what does the future hold for Slovácko? The club needs a miracle worker—a wizard of sorts who can conjure up some serious goal-scoring talent before the winter transfer window closes. With a squad that was once riding high, let’s hope they find a way to flick that magic switch back on. Fans, don your lucky underwear and hold tight—things are about to get interesting!
In conclusion, Roman West has left the building, and Slovácko is looking for its new Elvis. There’s plenty of drama in the air, and if nothing else, at least we’re all entertained. Stay tuned, folks! The beautiful game is always full of surprises—and sometimes, a bit of poetic justice!
The management of Slovácko has made the significant decision to part ways with head coach Roman West, who was appointed to replace Martin Svědík at the club just four months ago in June. In this major shakeup, fitness coach Aleš Buzek will also be leaving with immediate effect, and the squad will now be temporarily guided by assistant coach Jan Palinek, who will take the reins as the team seeks to regain its form.
“We initially had high hopes that this partnership would yield positive results, and we believed the team would see improvements in both performance and standings. Unfortunately, the circumstances have led us to conclude that the current situation is far from ideal, prompting our decision to dismiss Roman West from his role. For the time being, assistant coach Jan Palinek will lead the team until a new head coach is appointed,” expressed Petr Pojezný, the director of the club based in Uherské Hradiště.
West took over Slovácko before the season began, following the tenure of Martin Svědík. Before his promotion to the A-team, he successfully managed the club’s youth squad during the winter, where he celebrated a vital victory that secured their position in the league after navigating from dead last. Under West’s leadership, the team managed to accumulate 16 points over 12 league matches, resulting in an even split of four wins, four draws, and four losses. Despite this, the squad has struggled offensively, netting only eight goals, making it the least productive in the league, just ahead of last-place České Budějovice.
In the previous league season, Slovácko managed to secure a respectable 6th place finish. Under Martin Svědík’s successful leadership, the club had achieved back-to-back 4th place finishes, marking a historic high for the team. Furthermore, they celebrated a momentous victory by winning their first domestic cup and participated in the inaugural group stage of the European Conference League.

Interview with Petr Pojezný, Director of Slovácko
Editor: Thank you for joining us today, Petr. Let’s dive right in. The decision to dismiss Roman West as head coach came swiftly. Could you elaborate on the reasons behind this change so early in the season?
Petr Pojezný: Certainly. We had high hopes when we appointed Roman in June, believing he could build on the foundation laid by Martin Svědík. However, after 12 league matches, we felt the results simply weren’t meeting our expectations. With only 16 points and the lowest goal tally in the league, it became clear that a change was necessary to get us back on track.
Editor: That’s understandable. You mentioned in your statement that you hoped for improvements in performance. What specifically led to your conclusion that the situation was not optimal?
Petr Pojezný: It was a combination of factors. The team’s inability to score goals has been particularly concerning. Goals are crucial in football, and without them, it’s incredibly difficult to win matches. We analyzed the overall play and felt that despite the effort, it wasn’t translating into the results we needed.
Editor: Alongside Roman West, fitness coach Aleš Buzek has also been dismissed. Can you provide insight into why his departure was deemed necessary?
Petr Pojezný: In restructuring our coaching staff, we felt it was essential to create a new direction for the team. Sometimes, to facilitate change, you need to reassess not just the head coach but the entire support system. With a fresh start, we hope to ignite a spark in the players.
Editor: Moving forward, assistant coach Jan Palinek has stepped in temporarily. What are your expectations from him in this transitional phase?
Petr Pojezný: Jan is familiar with the squad and has been a key part of the coaching setup. His immediate task is to stabilize the team, boost morale, and hopefully start turning results around. We trust he’ll be able to motivate the players and utilize their strengths effectively.
Editor: It sounds like there’s a lot of work to be done. As the director, what qualities are you looking for in a new head coach?
Petr Pojezný: We are looking for someone with a proven track record of successful coaching, preferably with experience in maximizing team performance and improving results under pressure. It’s crucial that they can connect with the players and instill a positive mindset in the dressing room.
Editor: Lastly, what message do you have for the fans of Slovácko during this time of transition?
Petr Pojezný: I want to assure our fans that the management is committed to turning things around. We understand the passion and support they bring to the club, and we will do everything we can to restore faith in our team. Please stick with us through this period; we’re all in this together.
Editor: Thank you, Petr, for your time and insights. We look forward to seeing how Slovácko navigates through this challenging period.
Coaching strategies but also the personnel involved. As part of this transition, we decided to part ways with Aleš to allow for a fresh start and new energy within the squad.
Editor: Jan Palinek has stepped in as the temporary head coach. What are your expectations from him during this interim period?
Petr Pojezný: Jan knows the team well, having been with us as an assistant. We believe he can bring a different perspective and potentially spark some motivation in the players. Our goal is to stabilize the situation and set the foundation for our next permanent coaching appointment.
Editor: What are the main objectives for the club moving forward, especially considering the start to the season has been challenging?
Petr Pojezný: The immediate goal is to regain competitive form and build confidence in the squad. We want to see improvements in our performances, leading to better results on the pitch. Ultimately, we aim to ensure that Slovácko remains a strong competitor in the league and aims for higher placements as the season progresses.
Editor: Thank you for your insights, Petr. It sounds like an exciting yet challenging time ahead for Slovácko. We wish you and the team all the best as you navigate this transition.
Petr Pojezný: Thank you very much. We appreciate the support from our fans and are confident we can turn things around.
