THE nickel INDUSTRY in Indonesia shows its commitment to carrying out the energy transition to achieve targets Net Zero Emmission (NZE) 2060. This is in line with the commodity downstream program launched by President Prabowo Subianto.
As a National Strategic Project (PSN) in nickel downstreaming, PT Ceria Nugraha Indotama (Ceria Group), which is in the final stages of building the Red and White smelter, is committed to and fully supports the government’s program. Therefore, Ceria Group has determined the use of green energy throughout its industrial chain.
One source of green energy that is ready to supply the Merah Putih Ceria Group smelter is the Floating Power Generation Ship or Barge Mounted Power Plant (BMPP) Nusantara II-60 MW. One of the generating ships has been docked at the Wolo Special Terminal (Tersus) belonging to the Ceria Group in Kolaka Regency, Southeast Sulawesi, since Sunday, October 20 2024. Meanwhile, the second BMPP will follow later.
BMPP Nusantara II-60MW is one of the mandates listed in the Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL) which has been launched by the government, included in 1 series of BMPPs consisting of 2 BMPP 60 MW units.
BMPP Nusantara II uses 100% gas fuel with a capacity of 60 MW, has a length of 72 meters, a width of 27.4 meters and a height of 6.5 meters which was developed by PT PAL Indonesia and PT Indonesia Power. The ship is designed with an efficient design and sophisticated technological complexity, supported by 6 x Dual Fuel Engines 20V34DF, which can operate on diesel and LNG so that it is in line with Ceria’s commitment to the transition to clean energy.
Ceria Group CEO Derian Sakmiwata stated that the arrival of BMPP which will be operated in the Wolo Special Terminal (Tersus) area further strengthens the resilience of energy supply for the operation of the Ceria Merah Putih Smelter which is targeted for completion in the near future.
“The arrival of BMPP is a strategic step for Ceria Group in ensuring that the Red and White Smelter can operate optimally and sustainably with a reliable and environmentally friendly energy source,” he explained, Tuesday (22/10).
According to Derian, this floating power generation facility is supported by Jetty Wolo infrastructure and other supporting facilities built by PT PLN Indonesia Power (IP). This facility is designed to function optimally in meeting current electricity needs, thereby supporting smelter operations in the future.
“This BMPP will be directly connected to the PLN Kolaka Smelter Main Substation, so that the reliability of the electricity supply to the Ceria Smelter can continue to be maintained,” he added.
Since 2018, PT PLN has been a strategic partner of Ceria Group in providing clean and environmentally friendly energy supplies for the Red and White Smelter.
To date, PLN has succeeded in supplying 100 MVA of electricity, with a target of increasing capacity to 414 MVA or 352 MW with the signing of an Electricity Sale and Purchase Agreement (SPJBTL). PLN support also includes service provision Renewable Energy Certificate (REC), which allows Ceria to gain international recognition for its use of New Renewable Energy (EBT).
The arrival of BMPP, said Derian, is concrete evidence that Ceria Group continues to move forward in realizing a greener energy future.
“The main energy sources used by Ceria Group come from hydroelectric power plants, wind and gas engines, which is in line with the company’s vision to prioritize sustainability and clean energy in every operation,” concluded Derian. (E-2)
