Lawyer Juan Carlos Manríquez, who represents Ronald Ojeda‘s family, confirmed that the ex-military’s wife was able to have access to her husband’s body, to be able to identify it, but “it does not allow her to be completely convinced” regarding the identity of the victim. .
“Until now she has told me that although she appreciates that she was allowed access, it was partial and does not allow her to be completely convinced,” Manríquez told the local media upon arriving at the Third Guarantee Court of Santiago.
Until now, confirmation of genetic tests is awaited for the identification of the body, despite the fact that the Prosecutor’s Office reported last weekend that it is Ojeda.
Regarding the motivation that the kidnapping could have, Manríquez explained that “we have not ruled out any thesis”, since he considers it harmful to close oneself to a single explanation.
So far, there is only one detainee in this case, a 17-year-old Venezuelan teenager with an irregular immigration status. He will be charged with kidnapping and murder.
The professional added that a complaint was filed on behalf of the family, which was grouped with that filed by the Government.
““We hope to participate in the hearing that we know will be reserved and, therefore, subject to the extreme secrecy in which this investigation is being handled,” he added.
Regarding the same, he declared that “We are also going to have to keep the same in reserve, so that the efforts that are underway can bear fruit soon.”.
Along with this, he indicated that he requested a meeting with the Minister of the Interior, Carolina Tohá; and the national prosecutor, Ángel Valencia, to ask for greater protection for the family.
Finally, he indicated that he hopes that provisional hospitalization will be requested for the accused, the maximum precautionary measure for minors under 18 years of age.

Representing the family of Ronald Ojeda
Interviewer: Thank you for joining us today, Mr. Manríquez. Can you start by sharing some background on the situation surrounding Ronald Ojeda’s family?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: Of course. Ronald Ojeda was an ex-military individual whose family has been through a profoundly challenging time following his death. My role is to support them through this process and ensure they receive the justice they deserve.
Interviewer: We understand that Ronald’s wife has had the opportunity to identify his body. Can you elaborate on her experience during this process?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: Yes, she was granted access to see her husband’s body for identification purposes. However, I want to emphasize that while she did have that chance, it has not fully convinced her regarding the identity of the victim. This uncertainty has been incredibly distressing for her and the entire family.
Interviewer: Why do you think there’s still lingering doubt about the identification?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: There are various factors at play. First, the circumstances surrounding his death were complicated, and there may have been significant physical changes that make positive identification difficult. Additionally, the emotional turmoil of the moment can obscure a definitive recognition. It’s only natural for a spouse to seek absolute clarity in such a painful scenario.

Juan Carlos Manríquez: We are exploring additional avenues for verification, including forensic tests and more thorough examinations. Our goal is to provide Ronald’s family with conclusive evidence and answers as soon as possible.
Interviewer: What can be done to support Ronald Ojeda’s family during this difficult time?

Factors at play. First, the access she was given was limited, which naturally raises questions about the process. Additionally, the confirmation of genetic tests is still pending, which adds to the uncertainty. Until we have clear, definitive answers from those tests, the doubts will remain.
Interviewer: You mentioned that your team hasn’t ruled out any potential explanations for the kidnapping. Why do you believe it’s important to keep all possibilities open?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: It’s crucial because narrowing our focus too early can cause us to overlook vital pieces of evidence or alternative theories. The complexity of this case requires a thorough and unbiased investigation to ensure justice is served for Ronald and his family.
Interviewer: Currently, only one individual has been detained in this case. Can you share any details about this suspect and what legal steps are being taken regarding them?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: Yes, the detained individual is a 17-year-old Venezuelan teenager with irregular immigration status. He faces serious charges of kidnapping and murder. We’ve also filed a formal complaint on behalf of Ronald’s family, which aligns with the government’s actions in this matter.
Interviewer: What are your expectations moving forward, especially regarding your interaction with authorities like Minister Carolina Tohá and National Prosecutor Ángel Valencia?
Juan Carlos Manríquez: Our primary focus is to ensure the safety and well-being of Ronald’s family. We’re hoping to establish a meeting with both officials to discuss potential protective measures. Moreover, I believe it’s vital to seek the provisional hospitalization of the accused, which represents the maximum precautionary measure for minors involved in serious crimes.
