The GfK agency, which deals with market research, has published new figures on the sales of mobile phones on the Czech market for the third quarter of 2024. South Korean Samsung holds the top spot, but its influence is constantly declining in favor of Xiaomi and Apple. Infinix and Honor recorded an impressive increase in sales, a big surprise was the old-new manufacturer in the Czech Republic – the American Google with its Pixel smartphone series.

Samsung still first

The gold, silver and bronze positions in mobile phone sales on the Czech market still belong to the same Samsung-Xiaomi-Apple triumvirate. The question is how these manufacturers will maintain their ranking among themselves. According to data from the third quarter, although Samsung is still the first, its position is the least certain it has been in the last year.

In the months of July, August and September, Samsung sold 256,007 phones and ended up with a 33% market share. Since the beginning of the year, it has already sold over 860,000 mobile phones (out of a total of 2.049 million units), which is 80,000 more than in the same period last year. Nevertheless, this is a decrease compared to previous quarters. In the first quarter of the year, it even had a market share of 41.2%. So the data confirms that the Galaxy S and Galaxy A models are more popular with customers than the Galaxy Z jigsaws.

Jigsaw puzzles are not as popular as conventional phones

In second place are the phones of the Redmi brand, which is an offshoot of Xiaomi for less demanding customers. Redmi phones hold around 24% of the market share, with Xiaomi selling 140,160 of them under the mentioned brand in the given period. This clearly demonstrates the power of Redmi as a brand – compared to Xiaomi flagships (1.6% share) and Poco models (0 share .9%) is a definite success.

American Apple remained third. Its sales in September 2024 (47,316 mobile phones sold) were significantly influenced by the premiere of the new iPhone 16. For the entire period, we are talking about 133,334 phones sold and a market share of 21.9%. Autumn and the subsequent Christmas season are very important for Apple, so it is likely that the number of iPhones sold will increase in October, November and December, and Apple will overtake Xiaomi and Redmi respectively.

The fight between Infinix and Honor

Just below the level of the mentioned triumvirate is the American-Chinese Motorola, which has been oscillating around a 5% market share for a long time. In the period we are talking about, it managed to sell 34,449 phones. However, the statistics show an interesting downward trend: September 10,901 units, August 11,288 units, July 12,260 units. The premiere of the Edge 50 and 50 Neo models surprisingly did not have a positive impact on sales.

Don’t overlook

The battle between two Chinese companies has been going on for almost a year at the border of the top 5 sellers. According to the latest data, Infinix maintained the 5th position when it managed to sell 83 more phones than Honor in September. So he fell to 6th place.

In the third quarter, or not long before it, both manufacturers introduced novelties in the middle class. It probably had a very good impact on Honor’s results, in July the company even sold 12,420 mobile phones, twice as much as Infinix. During August and September, however, Honor fell significantly, to less than 6 thousand units sold (a drop of 53.7% in three months). On the other hand, Honor has a year-on-year increase in total sales of 93% and Infinix even 94.3%.

Surprise on behalf of Google

Other manufacturers also recorded a similar drop, although not as striking. So far this year, for example, Vivo (year-on-year drop of 19.7%), Realme (down of even 52.3%) or Doogee (year-on-year drop of 45.9%) are not doing well. With its quarterly sales of 1,392 units, Japan’s Sony just barely made it into the top 20 manufacturer statistics.

Sony is doing something wrong, they only sell lower hundreds of phones per month…

On the contrary, a very interesting story with a (so far) happy ending is being written by the American Google. In May, he announced his official entry into the Czech market and launched his own Google Store here. And even though the prices of the Pixel phones on offer have gone up, Google has sold almost twice as many of them compared to last year.

Specifically, for the whole of this year, we are talking about 11,581 phones, while last year at this time only, the American company boasted “only” 6,547 phones sold. Overall, this is an increase of 76.8%. Google currently holds a 1.1% share of the Czech market.

The Thrilling Competition: Infinix vs. Honor

And who could forget about the contenders trying to peek into the top tier? Infinix and Honor are battling it out for the fifth spot as if their careers depend on it. Fortunately for Infinix, they sold just a few more phones than Honor, but half the fun comes from the drama surrounding their fluctuating sales.

Since swaggering into the Czech market with their Pixel series, they’ve managed to nearly double their sales.
