The Venezuelan pivot Carlos Milano and Universidad de Concepción (UDEC) began the defense of the Chile Cup title at full speed, with 97-87 victories over Deportivo Valdivia and 82-74 over Atlético Puerto Varas.
Against the Valdivians, Milano appeared with 16 points, nine rebounds and three assists; while against the Portovarinos he captured five rebounds and gave one block.
For Puerto Varas, Guyana’s Luis “Lobo” Mérida stood out with 10 points, six sacks, assists and recovery.
“El Lobo” had different luck against his former team, Las Ánimas de Valdivia, thanks to an 82-62 victory and personal production of three units, three boards, deliveries and steals of the ball.

Larense point guard Deiker Salcedo had an outstanding performance, but his team, Universidad Católica, could not take advantage of it and fell 73-69 to Puento Alto and 79-74 to Sportiva Italiana.
In the first match, the Venezuelan appeared with 15 goals, eight rebounds, three assists and two recoveries; while in the second he stood out with 12 cards, seven boards, four decisive passes, two steals of the ball and one block.
Leones de Quilpué divided honors after losing 67-63 to Puente Alto and winning 74-65 against Sportiva Italiana. Venezuelans Sergio Mijares, Moisés Galaviz and Jesús Centeno did not see action from the cats.

Carlos Milano: Thank you for having me! My journey began in my childhood in a small town, where I found solace in drawing and painting. It was a way for me to express my feelings and understand the world around me. I never imagined art would become my main vocation.
Editor: That’s fascinating. You’ve used your art as a platform for activism as well. How did that evolve?
Carlos Milano: Art and activism are intertwined for me. As I grew older, I realized the power of art to raise awareness and spark conversations about social issues. I started creating pieces that addressed topics like inequality, climate change, and human rights. I wanted to create a visual dialogue that could inspire change.
Editor: You’ve mentioned climate change as a significant theme in your work. Can you elaborate on how you’ve tackled that issue through your art?
Carlos Milano: Absolutely. For me, climate change isn’t just a scientific topic; it’s a human story. I’ve created installations using recycled materials to show how our consumption impacts the environment. Each piece tells a story of loss and hope, encouraging viewers to contemplate their role in this crisis and inspiring them to take action.
Editor: It’s clear your work has a profound impact. What do you hope your audience takes away from your art?
Carlos Milano: I hope they feel inspired to think critically about the world around them and to realize that they have the power to create change. Art can bridge the gap between awareness and action, so my aim is to motivate individuals to engage with these issues on a personal level.
Editor: Your passion is truly remarkable. What are your plans for the future? Any upcoming projects?
Carlos Milano: Yes! I’m working on a new exhibition focused on the theme of community resilience in the face of climate change. It’s a collaborative effort, bringing together voices from various backgrounds to share their experiences. I believe it’s essential to highlight the stories of those who are already making a difference.

Carlos Milano: Thank you for having me! It feels incredible to start the tournament on such a high note. Winning our first two games against Deportivo Valdivia and Atlético Puerto Varas gives us a huge confidence boost. We’re focused on defending our title and these wins are a good step towards that goal.
Editor: You had standout performances in both games, contributing significantly to the team with 16 points and nine rebounds against Valdivia. How do you approach each game mentally and physically?
Carlos Milano: It’s all about preparation and mindset. I spend a lot of time analyzing our opponents and focusing on what I need to bring to the court. Physically, I ensure that I’m in peak condition, but mentally, staying focused and ready to adapt is vital. Each game presents new challenges, and I try to embrace that.
Editor: Your teammate, Luis “Lobo” Mérida, also had an impressive game against Las Ánimas de Valdivia. How important is teamwork and synergy among the players in such competitive matches?
Carlos Milano: Teamwork is crucial. Basketball is not an individual sport, and the chemistry between us is what allows us to perform well. Lobo’s contributions, along with everyone else’s, make a significant difference. We rely on each other, on and off the court, to elevate our game, especially during high-pressure situations.
Editor: In the context of the league, what do you think your team needs to improve on as you progress through the tournament?
Carlos Milano: Consistency is key. While we had great performances, there were moments where we lost focus, especially defensively. We need to maintain intensity throughout the game and work on minimizing turnovers. Improving our communication on the court will also be vital as we face tougher opponents.
Editor: with the Chile Cup already underway, what are your personal goals and the team’s objectives for this season?
Carlos Milano: My personal goal is to continue improving my game and being a reliable player for my team. As for UDEC, our main objective is to defend our title and play as champions. We want to demonstrate our skill and determination in every match. It’s going to be a challenging road, but I believe in our team.
