Trieste’s Heart in Action: A Playful Perspective on Community Engagement

Trieste, 24 October 2024 – Now, I know what you’re thinking: “Another association? Just what we need!” But hold onto your festive hats because Pallacanestro Trieste has just launched “Il Cuore in Campo – Pallacanestro Trieste”. Cue the applause, confetti, and potentially an awkward pause as the crowd wonders what “Il Cuore in Campo” even means. Spoiler alert: it’s “The Heart on the Court,” and just like a well-placed free throw, this initiative is aimed right at the community.

Here’s the lowdown. General Manager Michael Arcieri has taken it upon himself to not only follow up on last year’s efforts—don’t we all love a good sequel?—but also to crank up the volume on social impact to the max. And who’s holding the honorary baton? None other than President Paul Matiasic, who seems genuinely enthused about being the figurehead of good vibes and social change.

Now, I’d like to focus on the important bit here: community cohesion. When you hear “sports,” it often conjures up images of million-dollar contracts and overzealous fans. But Pallacanestro Trieste wants you to think more along the lines of warm fuzzies. It’s not just a game; it’s a movement! Here, they’ve noted the need to give back to the community that showers them with love (and hopefully, a few slam dunks). Sport, after all, is more than just a bunch of blokes running around chasing a ball; it’s a unifying force, much like a good pint at the pub… well, only less likely to induce a hangover!

As Arcieri himself noted, “The creation of the ‘Community & Fan Engagement’ Department was a priority.” That’s right, folks! It’s all about making meaningful connections, not just with fans, but with families, schools, and local institutions. Think of it as turning the court into a community center – where everyone can drop in for a three-pointer… or just a good chat.

The brains behind the operations is Mariabeatrice Cavarretta, who is diving headfirst into her role as the president of “Il Cuore in Campo.” Her mission? To ensure that the reds and whites turn their everyday practice of tossing a basketball into a dynamic force for good. It’s generous of them, really. Next, they’ll be giving away hot chocolate during half-time. I mean, who can say no to a warm beverage while watching athletes in peak physical condition? Makes you want to run a marathon just to justify indulging in those calories, doesn’t it?

The projects are an ambitious variety: environmental sustainability (they seem to have caught the green bug), community support, and even urban redevelopment, designed to revamp those more tired-looking sports fields that could use a facelift. Because who wants to shoot hoops in a place that looks like it just survived a post-apocalyptic movie set?

And speaking of community engagement, they’re not skimping on the fun! We’re talking meetings with students, partnerships with local associations, and even fundraising events that sound like they could give “Dancing with the Stars” a run for its money. If raising funds while having a good time were an Olympic sport, Pallacanestro Trieste would surely slide into gold medal contention.

The 2024-2025 season kicks off with a green initiative – EcoDunk – slamming for sustainability. It seems they’re not just out to win games; they’re out to save the planet, one dunk at a time! And if you thought kids enjoyed basketball, wait until you see them slam dunk for Mother Nature. If only they could find a way to turn used basketballs into eco-friendly gadgets. Ah, the dreams of inventors!

But let’s look ahead, shall we? They’re secretly working on two more projects dedicated to children in the Valmaura neighborhood. Details are still under wraps, but if I had to guess, they likely involve something that fuses fun with learning — perhaps basketball combat against environmental issues? I can already see it: “Eco Warriors vs. Pollution Invaders” – the ultimate showdown!

The launch of the “Il Cuore in Campo” Association is a game-changer. No, literally! They’re not just a basketball team; they’re a local superhero squad, ready to tackle social, economic, and environmental challenges with style. Because if you can’t score points on the court, why not do it for your community?

So if you feel like contributing to social change while watching your favorite team sprint across the court, check out their projects and see how you can pitch in. Every little bit helps, even if you’re just yelling at the referee in that supportive, constructive way we all know and love!

Trieste, 24 October 2024 – Pallacanestro Trieste is proud to announce the foundation of“Il Cuore in Campo – Pallacanestro Trieste” Associationan initiative that represents a fundamental step in the club’s commitment to the community.

The creation of “The Heart on the Court – Pallacanestro Trieste” arises from the will of General Manager Michael Arcierinot only to want to follow up on what was done last year with the creation of the “Community & Fan Engagement” department, but to broaden its objectives and its social impact. A choice fully shared by President Paul Matiasicwho will serve as honorary president of the Association.

Fundamental for society as a whole, therefore, is the need to give back to the community of Trieste the warmth and support that the team receives every day, playing a crucial role in promoting social change, improving community cohesion and encouraging individual development through sport .

“Last season, for me and for our organization, the creation of the ‘Community & Fan Engagement’ Department was a priority – said the GM Michael Arcieri – With the invaluable support of the previous ownership, we have charted a path for Pallacanestro Trieste to engage in a much more meaningful way with our families, fans, local institutions, schools and the region. Today, this department and these efforts take an important step forward. Thanks to President Matiasic’s commitment to these issues and the work of our staff, ‘Il Cuore in Campo’ has taken shape. This will be the tool through which the projects of the ‘Community & Fan Engagement’ Department will come to life.”

Mariabeatrice Cavarretta, director of the “Community & Fan Engagement” Department, she will preside over the “Il Cuore in Campo” Associationwhich will therefore be the beating heart and operational structure of the department itself.

“The foundation of the Association was necessary to give continuity and structure to the red and white projects for the community – the comment of Mariabeatrice Cavarretta – In this way both the partners of Pallacanestro Trieste and private citizens will be able to contribute to their implementation in a completely transparent way. The Association is directly linked to the club, through the involvement of players, staff and sponsors of the club. It will in fact be the operational arm of the projects imagined within the Community & Fan Engagement Department.”

The association will dedicate itself to the implementation of the projects conceived by the “Community & Fan Engagement” Department of Pallacanestro Trieste aimed at the care and support of its community, environmental sustainability and the dissemination of the principles of integration and sharing typical of sport, up to the urban redevelopment of sports fields.

The 2024-2025 season of “The Heart on the Field” opened with a focus dedicated to the environment with the creation, together with ITS Ecologia, One Ocean Foundation and Edilmaster|The Trieste Building SchoolOf EcoDunk – slamming for sustainability, a program to raise awareness of environmental sustainability dedicated to children, part of the club’s broader ecological transition plan which takes the name of “Pallacanestro Trieste goes green”. The creative workshops created within the scope of this project also included Barcolana56 – presented by Generali created in partnership with the event.

Two other projects dedicated to children in the Valmaura neighborhood will start in the coming weeks, details of which will be announced shortly.

The foundation of the “Il Cuore in Campo” Association marks a new chapter for Pallacanestro Trieste, strengthening the bond with the territory and underlining the company’s desire to be not only a sports team, but also a active and responsible social actor.

The mission that the “Il Cuore in Campo” Association wants to address is to address complex social problems such as environmental sustainability, marginalization and disability, promoting inclusion and equality. Through targeted projects, one can in fact try to positively influence the behavior and cultural attitudes of the community in which one operates. Pallacanestro Trieste is a symbol of community identity, capable of promoting a sense of belonging and pride among residents and sport, in general it is a powerful tool for uniting people of different cultural and economic origins.

The birth of the “Il Cuore in Campo” Association not only strengthens the bond between Pallacanestro Trieste and the local community, but also offers a sustainable model to face social, economic and environmental challenges, enabling everyone, not just the red and white partners and sponsors to be able to make your own valuable contribution.
