Part of the Plalangan River Embankment that Broken is Permanently Repaired

PART of the Plalangan River Embankment in Lamongan, East Java, which is critical due to a breach, is being repaired permanently. Others are still undergoing emergency repairs.

This condition has the potential to cause vulnerability during the next rainy season. This was conveyed by the Spokesperson for the Lamongan Regency Government, Sugeng Widodo, Wednesday, (23/10) evening.

According to Sugeng, only some of the embankments of the tributaries of the Bengawan Solo River which were breached last year are being permanently repaired. “Yes, only part of it has been permanently repaired,” he said.

The dropout point, which is located in Tambakploso Village, Turi District, is currently being strengthened with permanent repairs. “Making it permanent, the progress of the embankment construction has reached 50%,” added Sugeng.

He explained that improvements with this construction are expected to strengthen the embankment in the long term. Other embankment points which are also in critical condition are still under emergency treatment. “It’s true, it’s prone to breaches again during the rainy season. So you need to be careful,” he explained.

Repairing the broken embankment is the responsibility of the Bengawan Solo River Basin Center (BBWS) in Karanganyar, Central Java. The Plalangan River embankment experienced landslides of around 192 meters at three points due to breaking during last year’s flood.

The landslide points were in Plosowahyu Village, Lamongan District, Tambakploso Village, Bambang Village, and Pomahanjanggan Village in Turi District. The breach of the Plalangan River embankment which collapsed due to high rainfall in the Lamongan area. (N-2)
