New prison management model: Tacumbú Prison will have building retrofitting

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Minister of Justice, Rodrigo Nicora, toured the facilities of the Tacumbú National Penitentiary, where he verified the progress of the project that will allow a substantial improvement in buildings, lighting and greater security, within the framework of the new prison management model.

He was accompanied by the designer Stella Azuaga, director of Works and Infrastructure of the institution.

In this sense, the Justice Ministry reports that it is working on a strategic alliance with other public institutions, which will have a very positive impact on the Tacumbú penitentiary and its surroundings, aware that structural and functional weaknesses allow organized crime to permeate.

As the axis of the penitentiary reform, the aim is to implement a classification system for people deprived of liberty (PPL).

The architect Azuaga detailed the tasks that in a few more weeks will bring a very significant change to the Tacumbú prison and its surroundings.

He stated that they are working on improving the surrounding façade over the main access that includes sectors of the administrative area, readjustment and improvement of the electrical system, replacement and new installation of public lighting with removal of the overhead wiring system.

He pointed out that it also includes the verification and maintenance of the drinking water system, improvement of the vehicular circulation environment, fire control, maintenance assistance and beautification of two public squares in front of the prison, with municipal planning and new control technologies in prison security.

The Ministry of Justice highlights the support of the National Electricity Administration (ANDE), Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Municipality of Asunción, Empresa de Servicios Sanitarios del Paraguay SA (ESSAP), National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC) , Third Fire Company K3 Saxony, National Police and National Directorate of Civil Aeronautics (DINAC).

Architect Gustavo Cáceres, technician from the Directorate of Works and Infrastructure of the MJ, also participated in the tour with the head of the Justice portfolio; the director of the Tacumbú prison, Luis Esquivel and other public officials.
