When is the electoral allowance paid to beneficiaries

Election allowance they are going to receive special electoral crews, to deal with emergencies during the preparation and conduct of the elections. Not only the police, but also the judges and workers in courts, municipalities and the Ministry of the Interior will receive an electoral allowance.

The special allowance ranges from 150 euros to 900 euros, according to law 5043/2023. The 2023 election allowance received by those who work for the election this time, as provided by the amendment, will be tax-free and not subject to the statutory deductions provided for in the regular payroll.

In the 2019 elections, court officials received 900 euros for the entire period of providing extraordinary election work.

The employees of the Ministry of Citizen Protection (police officers, firefighters, border guards, special guards, port guards, etc.) received an electoral allowance of 150 euros.

Personnel belonging to the Ministry of Justice had received election compensation from 170 to 340 euros.
Finally, employees of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems had received a special electoral compensation of 600 euros.

When is the electoral allowance paid?

The payment of the 2023 electoral allowance is expected to be made in a few days.

Who will receive an electoral allowance – Details of the amounts

Specifically, the special electoral compensation of the categories of employees referred to in no. 43160/15.5.2023 joint decision is set at the amount of 2,070 euros, per employee, subject to the following clauses:

• The special election compensation of employees of the Ministry of the Interior (Macedonia – Thrace sector) is set at the amount of 1,200 euros, per employee.
• The special electoral compensation of the employees of the National Center for Public Administration and Self-Government is set at the amount of 560 euros, per employee.
• The special election compensation for the employees of the 1st Commissioner Service of the Department of Interior and Citizen Protection and for the employees of the Commissioner Service of the Ministry of the Interior – Sector of Macedonia – Thrace is set at the amount of 1,200 euros, per employee. For the commissioner of the 1st Commissioner Service of the Department of the Interior and Citizen Protection based in Athens, the special election compensation is set at the amount of 3,000 euros and for the deputy commissioner of the Commissioner Service of the Ministry of the Interior – Sector of Macedonia – Thrace it is set at the amount of 2,070 euros.
• The special election compensation of the employees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs, of e-E.F.K.A. and of ETEAEP, is determined at the amount of 400 euros, per employee.
• The special election compensation of the employees of the Regional Directorates of Citizenship of the Ministry of the Interior is set at the amount of 1,200 euros, per employee.
• The special electoral compensation of the employees of the Decentralized Administrations is set at the amount of 370 euros, per employee.
• The special electoral compensation of Municipal employees is set at the amount of two hundred euros 200 euros, per employee.
• The special election compensation of the employees of the Ministry of the Interior (interior sector) who serve or are employed in the Directorates of Administrative Support, up to sixty-six (66) people, Budget and Financial Management, up to 20 people, Procurement and Infrastructure, up to 33 people, Elections, up to 54 people, Electronic Government, up to 35 people, including the competent General Directors, in the other Directorates and units of the Ministry of the Interior, up to twenty (20) people, determined at the amount of 3,000 euros per person, due to the particularly burdensome work they perform during the preparatory period of the elections for the nomination of the members of the Greek Parliament on May 21, 2023 as well as for the collection, transmission and publication of the results.

According to the decision (No. 44769) of the Ministries of Finance and the Interior, the decision concerns the election crews that will help with the extremely large amount of work required for the organization and systematization of actions and tasks for the preparation and conduct of the elections for the election of the members of the Greek Parliament on May 21, 2023, as well as for the collection, transmission and publication of the results.

It is noted that the expenditure that will be required for the compensation of the above personnel will be charged to the appropriations of the expenditure budget of the Ministry of the Interior, ALE 2910601056, of the Special Agency 1007206, for the financial year 2023 and will amount to approximately 13,721,110 euros.
