Facts about the case of the release of suspected killer Gregorius Ronald Tannur (Antara)

THE CASE of Gregorius Ronald Tannur, the son of a former member of the DPR, has been in the public spotlight since early 2024.

The following is a series of events that brought this case to the latest stage of the arrest of judges and lawyers regarding alleged bribery in Ronald Tannur’s acquittal.

1. Beginning of the Case: Early Murder of Sera Afriyanti

In mid-2024, Gregorius Ronald Tannur was suspected of being involved in the murder of Dini Sera Afriyanti, his 29-year-old girlfriend.

This case emerged after Dini’s body was found with signs of physical violence.

The forensic report showed that the victim died from serious injuries which were strongly suspected to have been caused by abuse.

Ronald, who at that time was still a suspect, was faced with a series of investigations by the police and was immediately detained to undergo legal proceedings.

2. Trial and acquittal

After the trial process was underway, in August 2024, the Surabaya District Court decided that Gregorius Ronald Tannur was declared not guilty and acquitted of all charges related to the murder.

This verdict surprised many parties, considering that the evidence presented by the prosecutor was considered strong. This acquittal decision was taken by three judges, namely Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo.

3. Public Reaction and Judicial Commission Recommendations

Ronald’s acquittal immediately sparked widespread criticism from the public and legal activists. They questioned the integrity of the judicial process and alleged irregularities in decision-making.

This case was then taken up by the Judicial Commission (KY) which investigated alleged violations of the code of ethics by the three judges.

In August 2024, KY made a recommendation that the three judges involved in Ronald’s acquittal be sentenced to dismissal with the right to retire.

KY found a violation of the Code of Ethics and Behavior for Judges (KEPPH) regarding their decision.

4. Alleged Bribery in the Release Process

This case became increasingly heated after allegations emerged that the acquittal was related to the acceptance of bribes by the judges.

The Attorney General’s Office (Kejagung) also stepped in to investigate further, especially after there were reports from various parties who suspected there was a money game in this case.

On Wednesday, October 23 2024, the Attorney General’s Office arrested the three judges who previously acquitted Ronald, along with a lawyer who was suspected of being involved in the acquittal through the practice of bribery.

This arrest marks an important development in exposing the alleged corruption behind the controversial acquittal.

5. Statement from the Attorney General’s Office

Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) Febrie Adriansyah confirmed that the arrest was related to the acceptance of bribes by the three judges and lawyers.

However, the AGO is still keeping the identity of the lawyer involved in this case a secret.

According to Febrie, the AGO will provide more complete information at a press conference on the same day at the AGO Building, South Jakarta.

6. Advanced Process

After this arrest, the three judges and lawyers will undergo further legal proceedings.

The Attorney General’s Office confirmed that it would complete the investigation regarding this bribery case, with the aim of enforcing the law and maintaining the integrity of the justice system in Indonesia.

The case of Gregorius Ronald Tannur is not only a legal issue related to murder, but also involves allegations of bribery practices and violations of the judicial code of ethics.

From the beginning of the murder investigation to the arrest of the judge and lawyer, this case shows the complexity of the justice system and the challenges in enforcing clean and transparent laws.

The public is now waiting for the Attorney General’s steps in dealing with the suspects involved in bribery, as well as the continuation of the investigation into this case.
