The president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, declared this Tuesday in a meeting with journalists that Germany is “skeptical” about Ukraine’s entry into NATO because the Germans “fear” Russia’s reaction to an invitation to kyiv to join. the Alliance.

“I am grateful to Scholz for his help. Germany is the second country that supports us the most. I say things as I see them, not as it suits people. That Germany is skeptical about our membership in NATO is a fact,” Zelensky was quoted as saying by Ukrainian media.

The Ukrainian president was, however, confident that the rest of the allied countries could influence Berlin to end up making a positive decision in this regard.

Zelensky also stressed that Ukraine does not agree to give up territories in exchange for joining NATO, and accused, without giving names, “some allies” of raising this option through the media instead of presenting it directly to him.

The president insisted, in line with what he calls for in his ‘Victory Plan’, in asking the allies to formulate a firm invitation to Ukraine to join NATO before the end of the war.
