The District Administration has started the ‘We want you alive’ campaign, an initiative focused on the safety of road actors, especially motorcyclists, who seek to reduce accidents on the city’s streets. With the alarming report of 248 deaths and more than 19,158 injuries in motorcycle-related road accidents to date, the campaign arises in response to growing concern about road safety.
Mayor Federico Gutiérrez Zuluaga emphasized the urgency of the situation: “There are 248 families where the dining rooms are empty and the beds are cold. “Life is worth too much and we want to insist on it, because we already see that the number of deaths on the roads is higher than the number of homicides.”
The campaign will focus on addressing three cultural problems that contribute to accidents: overconfidence, low risk perception and lack of driving skill. These factors often lead to reckless behavior such as breaking speed limits, not wearing a helmet, and using cell phones while driving.

‘We love you alive’ will feature characters like Juan Visaje, Jhon Aleta and María Imprudencia, who symbolize risky behavior on the roads. Campaign activities include traveling fairs, free driving classes and partnerships with driving schools. Agreements will also be implemented with companies to train employees in the courier and logistics sectors.
Tatán Mejía, a renowned motorcyclist, stressed the importance of training: “The message is ‘learn to drive those motorcycles, it will save your life.’” The campaign seeks not only to educate motorcyclists, but also to involve their loved ones in a commitment to road safety.
Statistics reveal that the most dangerous corridors include the Río Road System, the North Highway and Las Palmas Avenue, where most of the fatal incidents are concentrated. With ‘We love you alive’, the administration hopes to generate a significant change in the city’s road culture and protect the lives of all those who travel its streets.
