The Attorney General’s Office carried out an Arrest Operation (OTT) against three judges at the Surabaya District Court who determined an acquittal against Ronald Tannur in the abuse case.
The three judges are now being questioned at the East Java High Prosecutor’s Office.
The Head of the East Java High Prosecutor’s Office (Kajati), Mia Amiati, in Surabaya, Wednesday (23/10), confirmed the OTT, but her party only facilitated the team from the Attorney General’s Office.
According to Mia, the judge who was arrested in the OTT was confirmed to be the judge who acquitted defendant Gregorius Ronald Tannur. The three judges are, Erintuah Damanik as chief judge, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo, each as member judge.
“The three judges were arrested for accepting bribes related to the handling of the case with the defendant Ronald Tannur,” said Mia, at the East Java Prosecutor’s Office.
Mia was reluctant to provide details regarding the bribes received by the three judges. Because, continued Mia, the East Java Prosecutor’s Office only facilitated the team from the Attorney General’s Office regarding the location for the examination of the three judges.
“So, we cannot convey any material related to the bribery or gratuities received by the three judges, because that is the authority of the Attorney General’s Team,” he said.
Mia said that the Attorney General’s Team is currently examining the three judges by borrowing a place at the East Java Prosecutor’s Office. Mia also clarified the news circulating, that the examination of the three judges was carried out at the East Java Regional Police Headquarters.
“We want to clarify that the investigation is not at the East Java Regional Police, but at the East Java Prosecutor’s Office. “Currently the three people are still being questioned by the Attorney General’s Team, and God willing, the three people will be brought to Jakarta tonight,” he said.
Previously, the Judicial Commission (KY) recommended giving permanent dismissal sanctions with the right to retire to the three judges who gave the defendant Gregorius Ronald Tannur an acquittal.
The recommendation for the penalty for dismissal was conveyed at the consultation meeting of Commission III DPR RI led by Habiburokhman with KY on Monday, August 26 2024.
The three judges, namely Erintuah Damanik, Mangapul, and Heru Hanindyo, were said to have violated the Code of Ethics and Conduct for Judges (KEPPH), because they gave an acquittal to Ronald Tannur. Ronald Tannur is the son of former member of the DPR RI from the PKB faction, Edward Tannur.
In a trial that took place on July 24 2024, Ronald Tannur was declared not guilty of allegedly assaulting his girlfriend, Dini Sera Afriyanti (DSA), until she died. (FL/J-3)
