In his speech, Putin emphasized that:

  • All our efforts are focused on deepening cooperation between the BRICS countries at the levels of politics, security, economics, and humanitarian fields
  • Strengthening financial cooperation between the BRICS countries and expanding the group’s future participation. There is great interest in the group from southern countries. More than 30 countries have expressed their desire to cooperate with BRICS.
  • Group effectiveness and balance must be maintained at the same time.
  • Today we witness the dynamic development of BRICS and the strengthening of its international reputation.
  • BRICS has great political, economic and humanitarian potential, as we seek to create a just, multipolar world.
  • Moscow has worked to implement the outcomes of the previous summit in Johannesburg to enhance financial cooperation among the countries of the group

During the summit, the heads of delegations will discuss the most pressing aspects of the global agenda and exchange views on the issue of cooperation between the BRICS countries on the international arena, including resolving a number of acute regional conflicts.

Another topic will also be addressed, which is the issue of increasing the number of participants in BRICS.

This year, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia joined Brazil, Russia, China, India and South Africa as full members of BRICS. There are currently more than 30 other countries that, in one way or another, are showing interest in membership or cooperation with BRICS.

President Putin will also continue a series of bilateral international contacts on the sidelines of the BRICS summit, and will hold meetings with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

At the end of the expanded meeting, the leaders are scheduled to adopt the Kazan Declaration – a comprehensive document summarizing the achievements of the forum, but also the achievements of the entire Russian presidency.
