The Colombian Army arrested a dissident from the former FARC, known by the alias ‘Diego’, to whom the authorities blame the armed attacks that occurred on October 11 in the municipality of Silvia, in the department of Cauca (southwest). , that institution reported this Tuesday.

The member of the group Dagoberto Ramos, who is part of the Central General Staff (EMC), was detained by the troops of the 29 Brigade, who neutralized an illegal checkpoint that the individual and seven other people intended to install on the Pan-American Highway, the main highway. from the southwest of the country.

Three other people were arrested in that operation.

Alias ​​’Diego’, 30 years old, was allegedly in charge of attacking the authorities and coordinating an assault on the headquarters of the Banco Agrario de Silvia.

The crimes of which the dissident is accused are “armed attacks on different towns in eastern Cauca and the installation of illegal checkpoints on the Pan-American Highway and access roads to towns such as Silvia and Totoró”, which were aimed at vehicle theft. high-end.

“This result reaffirms the commitment of the National Army in the protection of road corridors and in the fight against illegal structures that threaten the tranquility of the communities in the southwest of the country,” added the institution.
