It is believed that palm oil will continue to play a vital role in various sectors in fulfilling people’s lives. Unfortunately, until now there are many challenges that haunt the industry.
Domestically, there are issues regarding production and productivity stagnation, policy uncertainty, and the average age of plants entering the replanting period. Meanwhile, challenges faced from abroad include the balance between supply and demand for other vegetable oils, negative campaigns regarding sustainable supply chains and geopolitical factors in Europe and the Middle East.
General Treasurer of the Indonesian Palm Oil Entrepreneurs Association (Gapki) Mona Surya revealed that one of the challenges is the European Union Deforestation Policy (EUDR). That is an obstacle for palm oil in the international market.

“This policy has the potential to have a significant impact on palm oil farmers in main producing countries such as Indonesia (41% of global production) and Malaysia (27%),” said Mona in a written statement, Wednesday (23/10).
Responding to these dynamics full of uncertainty, Gapki is holding the 20th IPOC 2024 which will be held on 6-8 November 2024 at the Bali International Convention Center, The Westin Resort, Nusa Dua, Bali. With the theme Seizing Opportunities Amidst Global Uncertainty.
The conference is expected to become a strategic forum to discuss various opportunities amidst global uncertainty.

“Various Indonesian palm oil policies, market perspectives from importing countries, as well as analysis of world palm oil supply and demand will be the main discussion topics at IPOC 2024,” said Mona.
Gapki General Chair Eddy Martono said that currently there is a need for a body or institution that regulates or regulates the palm oil industry, which is currently spread across many institutions or ministries.
“The hope is that with the existence of a National Palm Oil Agency directly under the President, the palm oil industry will be better managed and can contribute optimally,” he stressed. (Z-11)
