BENGALURU, India (AP) — A seven-story building under construction in southern India collapsed during monsoon rains, killing at least five workers and trapping three others.

Fire and emergency teams have rescued 13 people so far, police said in a statement. On Tuesday, an entire building collapsed in the Babu Sapaliya area of Bengaluru, one of India’s technology and information hubs.

The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

Such accidents are common during India’s monsoon season, which usually lasts from June to September. Safety standards are inconsistently enforced, and some builders take shortcuts, use inferior materials or add floors without authorization, causing structures to collapse.
