Municipality reports theft of traffic light cables from the downtown area of ​​Asunción

Asunción, IP Agency.- The Municipality of Asunción reported the theft of traffic light cables at several intersections in the capital, a situation that harms the normal functioning of the devices and vehicular traffic.

The main inconveniences are on Brasil Street, specifically at the intersection with Luis Alberto de Herrera, Cerro Cora, 25 de Mayo, Mariscal Estigarribia and Eligio Ayala streets.

Also on Unidos and 25 de Mayo streets and in Hernandarias and General Díaz, clarifying that at all these intersections, the cables of the traffic light installations are routinely stolen.

The director of Transit and Transportation of the municipality, Vicente Capello, stated that these facilities are underground and the cables are being stolen compulsively. “In the week that ends, the cables were replaced three times in these places, without it yet being possible to determine who is responsible for these crimes,” he said.

The main reason for theft, it is presumed, is to recycle copper. The Municipality proposes the installation of monitoring cameras at traffic light intersections.

He indicated that complaints have already been made at the corresponding police stations and a complaint is being prepared to send to the Public Ministry and the National Police Command.
