Caribes de Anzoátegui defeated Cardenales de Lara 3-1 this Tuesday and has three wins in a row at the Alfonso “chico” Carrasquel stadium in Puerto La Cruz.
The Tribe relied on a wonderful relief from the young Gabriel Aguilera, in addition to the timely hitting of Herlis Rodríguez and Leonardo Reginatto, to achieve its fourth victory in nine games of the 2024/2025 season of the Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP).
Both teams, which now have the same balance of 4-5, will meet again on Wednesday, October 23, in the Portocruzano park.
Master relay
Gabriel Aguilera had a masterful relief from the second to the sixth inning, after an irregular start from the big league Mauricio Llovera, who made his debut this campaign.
Llovera could only get one inning, in which he allowed three hits, one streak and hit two opponents. Fortunately for Caribes, he made the adjustments and got the last out of that first act with a fly ball to center field, as he had the bases full and it promised to be an inning with greater productivity for the twilights.
For its part, the aboriginal offensive responded quickly by tying the actions. Andruw Monasterio hit a double and a fly ball from Herlis Rodríguez moved to third base three, and then reached the plate thanks to another sacrifice fly, this time from Williams Astudillo.
Then, with an unstoppable Aguilera, those led by Morgan Ensberg took advantage in the third inning thanks to a home run by Rodríguez, while in the fourth they widened the difference with a home run by Reginatto.
From there the pitching of both teams remained dominant. Saúl Terán took the seventh chapter for Caribes, Richard Guasch the eighth and Andrés Sotillet the ninth to score his first save.
The award went to Aguilera (1-1), while Bryan Pérez took the defeat (0-1).
