New details about the military plane crash in North Darfur, western Sudan

Information received according to the “Sudan News” website showed that the cargo plane that crashed in the Malha area in North Darfur state – northwestern Sudan yesterday, Monday, belonged to the Sudanese army, and the incident resulted in the death of three of its members, contrary to what was previously reported.

The Sudan News website (sudanakhbar) pointed out that the official spokesman for the Rapid Support Forces announced in an official statement that its forces were able to recover the plane’s black box properly, in addition to obtaining important documents and information related to the plane and the tasks assigned to it by the Sudanese army.

In turn, the activist specializing in war news, Muhammad Khalifa, known as Khal Al-Ghalaba, confirmed this in a post on his Facebook page. That there were three Sudanese (from the Sudanese army) who were on board the plane, providing their names.

He confirmed that the plane belonged to the Sudanese army, was of the Yushin type, and was flown by pilots from Eastern Europe. It took off from Port Sudan, heading to El Fasher on an air supply mission for the Sixth Infantry Division, carrying weapons, ammunition and medicine.

He stated that the plane completed its mission successfully and was able to carry out the drop properly, but during its return it began to catch fire and fell. He pointed out that there was a possibility that there was a technical malfunction or that it had been targeted, but he considered that a small possibility.

Data was published for the crew of the ill-fated military plane, noting that one of them was Russian from Kyrgyzstan.

But a statement from Manas Airport, according to TASS, denied this, stressing: “The documents from Manas International Airport OJSC, which were found during a plane crash in Sudan, belong to an employee of Airline Transport Incorporation FZC. Viktor Granov is a Russian citizen and was not an employee at the airport.” Manas himself.”

The press service added that Manas Airport issues transit permits to the organizations cooperating with it under the terms of the agreement. Thus, specialists can carry out their work duties without hindrance due to free access to the airport.

According to Manas representatives, the downed plane belongs to the Egyptian company New Way Cargo Airlines. The airport press service confirmed that the Il-76 had nothing to do with Airline Transport Incorporation FZC from Osh.

The airport press service pointed out that the company “New Way Cargo Airlines” is registered in Kyrgyzstan, and the operator’s certificate for transporting goods is valid until June 16, 2025.
