Japan Days: A Celebration of Passion and Cats

Ah, Japan Days – the Roman event that had me feeling more grateful than a cat in a sunbeam! This past Sunday, 20 October, I found myself wandering through a world that was both familiar and delightful, like bumping into a friend you haven’t seen in years… and they still owe you money.

A Nostalgic Return

After a sixteen-year hiatus from the capital, where I once roamed as a wide-eyed tourist, I was reunited with a Rome that has changed yet remained enchantingly similar. And let’s not forget the stress of travel – I mean, is it just me, or does flying make you feel like a burrito on a conveyor belt?

Thank Yous All Around!

Before I dive deeper, let’s take a moment to shower a few well-deserved thank yous. First up, Silvia Casini, the event organizer. Honestly, Silvia, you’re not just a planner; you’re a magician. Speaking of magic, I was swept into discussions about Candy with the Jugglers of the Stars, and if you thought juggling was just tossing balls in the air, think again – it’s like watching Shakespeare act out a debate with a comedian!

Hats off to Eleonora and Salvatore for their legendary hospitality. You guys made me feel like a monarch in a land where the only thing that truly reigns supreme is excellent food and warm smiles. To Clara Serina, my roommate – they say good roommates are like unicorns; they’re rare and almost mythical, so cheers for being real!

Meet the Fabulous Felines

And oh, the cats! My dear Swimmila introduced me to her splendid felines. Honestly, if I could “purr” about anything, it’s surely about those adorable furry creatures. If I could choose between a cat video or your average cat meme, it’s clear who wins that battle. Spoiler alert: it’s the cats.

The Joy of Connection

Every event has its heart, and here, it wasn’t just hugs and high-fives. I connected with many who came together, and the sight of young Alessandro, my avid reader, clutching my books for a photograph, made my heart swell. It’s incredible to see passion radiate in the eyes of fans; it reminds you about the good you’re contributing to the universe – it’s like a shot of espresso for the soul!

Whenever Cinzia asked, “When will we see each other again?”, it sent a lovely thrill through me. Those words hang in the air like the scent of coffee on a lazy Sunday morning… persistent, comforting, irresistible.

The Words of Brontë

On my way, I read a collection of short stories titled On the Moor with Emily Brontë. I found a quote that struck a chord: “In my life, I have had dreams that have remained with me forever and transformed the way I think…” This mirrors my feelings about Oscar – a dream that has woven itself into the fabric of my thoughts like a fine Italian tapestry.

Snapshots of Joy

Now, let’s get to the pièce de résistance – the photos!

In Conclusion

So there you have it, folks! From talks on Oscar to flamboyant cosplayers, from cats that could melt the coldest heart to friends who feel like family – Japan Days was a whirlwind of joy and connection. Who knew a day in Rome could feel like a reunion with long-lost relatives at the family BBQ? Remember to cherish every moment; after all, it’s the quirks of life that paint our canvases with the brightest of colors. Cheers to more days filled with laughter, discussions, and cats!

Now the time has come to talk about Japan Days, the Roman event that I attended on Sunday 20 October and which was truly beautiful.
I had been missing from the capital for over sixteen years, where I had gone to be a tourist: here I saw a different but no less interesting Rome.
In the meantime, thank you, thank you, thank you: to Silvia Casini, organizer of the event, with whom I spoke about Candy, to the Jugglers of the Stars, to Eleonora and Salvatore for their hospitality, to Clara Serina, my roommate, to all the friends who I met Gina Score, Manuela Mancini, Franco Verardi and many others, thanks to Swimmila for the splendid evening together and for introducing me to her splendid cats, thanks to Alessandro, my very young reader, who wanted to have a photo taken with me because it has all my books, to the small, splendid budding Oscars, and obviously to the three legendary Cinzia de Carolis, Massimo Rossi and Luciano Roffi.
Events like this warm your heart and make you understand that you have done something good in life. Seeing passion and gratitude in the eyes of others is incredible, hearing Cinzia asking me When will we see each other again? it’s an endless emotion, feeling at home is unique. I would like to quote a phrase that I found in a very beautiful book, which has nothing directly to do with Oscar, and which I read during the outward journey, the collection of short stories On the moor with Emily Bronte: In my life I have had dreams that have remained with me forever, and have transformed the way I think. They became part of me, like wine when it mixes with water, and changed the color of my thoughts. This is what Oscar was and is for me.
And now, my photos!!!
