BANGUI, Central African Republic, October 22, 2024 / African Media Agency (AMA)/ – The UN was created by the world, for the world.

Since 1945, it has enabled countries to come together to find global solutions to global problems.

Solutions to ease tensions, build bridges and build peace.

Solutions to eliminate poverty, stimulate sustainable development and defend the most vulnerable.

Solutions to provide vital assistance to people struggling with conflict, violence, economic hardship and climate disasters.

Solutions to offer equal opportunities to women and girls and thus ensure equality and justice.

Solutions to address questions unimaginable in 1945: climate change, digital technology, artificial intelligence and outer space.

In September, the General Assembly adopted the Future Compact, the Global Digital Compact and the Declaration on Future Generations.

Thanks to these historic agreements, the United Nations system will be able to adapt, reform and rejuvenate itself, stay in step with developments and challenges in the world around us and provide solutions for all.

Our action will, however, remain anchored in the timeless values and principles of the United Nations Charter and international law, and in the dignity and human rights of every person.

In our troubled world, hope is not enough.

Hope comes through firm measures and multilateral solutions for peace, shared prosperity and a thriving planet.

Hope comes through cooperation between all countries.

Hope comes through the UN.

On the occasion of United Nations Day, I ask all countries to keep alive this flame that guides the world, and to defend its ideals.

“In our troubled world, hope is not enough. Hope comes through firm measures and multilateral solutions for peace, shared prosperity and a thriving planet. Hope comes through cooperation between all countries. Hope comes through the UN.” Antonio Guterres
