The actor was diagnosed with the disease in 2006, when he was 50 years old.

Newman was the only one of the Baywatch cast who had actual experience as a lifeguard, which added to the authenticity of his role. He appeared in 150 episodes of the series, more than anyone other than David Hasselhoff, and while starring in Baywatch, he also held down his position as a full-time firefighter.

His difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease was recently documented in the documentary “Baywatch: Moment in the Sun”, which shines a light on the lives and careers of the actors of this iconic series.

“This illness has given me a lot of thinking time, which maybe I didn’t want, but it has brought me wisdom,” Newman told People in August.

“My body has changed so slowly that I hardly notice it, yet I am constantly reminded that Parkinson’s has now become the center of my life,” he added.

Newman also said, “I love the days when I get to be on this earth with my family and friends. I take life seriously.”
