André Hazes has recently joined the football coach of his eight-year-old son Dré. The artist receives a lot of questions online about this new job and Dré’s football talent, but André was not really impressed by his little “football talent” at first, he says on Monday: “More of a hockey boy” (see video).
André shares three videos on his Instagram Story in which he perhaps explains Dré’s football development a little too honestly to his followers. “How does Dré do it? Well, I’ll tell you. I don’t know if he’ll see my video, but Dré: this is reality,” André begins nonchalantly. The artist makes no bones about it: “In the beginning I thought: ‘Yes… Maybe he is more of a hockey boy’. I didn’t really think he was a talent, so to speak.”
André admits that he thought it would be better for his son not to play football after seeing him play in the beginning. “But that’s where you go wrong as a parent!”, he thinks. “I really see him developing more and more bizarrely.” His son now trains twice a week, including once at Feyenoord, and also plays a match once a week. “And I really see him getting better and better,” says André proudly (see video below).

‘Your son is really dangerous’
André gives an example from last weekend, when Dré played a match. “We then won 5-4 and Dré had scored four times. That’s what they all want to score, but he had a few insights with passing, which made me think: ‘Yes, he is starting to realize it.’ The trainer of that team also came to me and said: ‘Bro, your son is really dangerous!'” André beams.
He continues proudly: “During halftime they also said: ‘You have to cover that big boy! The one with the pink shoes!’ That’s my child, so I was very proud.” André also summarizes the moral of the story at the end: “If your child says he wants to play football – and you have all kinds of opinions about it (…) -, give it to him! It will happen naturally, let give him a treat. Give it to yourself too, because it’s super fun.”
