MEMBER OF THE DPR RI from the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) faction Netty Prasetiyani Aher said the open unemployment figure which reached 19.31 million people as of February 2024 could have serious implications for the new government.

“This unemployment figure must be a serious concern for the new government by preparing anticipatory steps. Millions of families in Indonesia will feel a big impact due to high unemployment,” said Netty, Friday, October 18 2024.

According to Netty, this reality is a big challenge for the government and all stakeholders to immediately take concrete steps in creating more quality jobs.

“Every person who is unemployed will certainly have a legacy impact in the form of economic, social or educational problems in their family. “For example, problems with providing nutritious food, family health problems, and triggering problems of household harmony,” explained Netty.

According to Netty, the problem of unemployment, especially among new graduates and young workers, shows a lack of synchronization between the world of education and the needs of the job market.

Therefore, continued Netty, “We must strengthen skills training programs, especially in the fields of technology and the creative economy, in vocational schools. Apart from that, the government must have the courage to invest in this sector to open up wider job opportunities and answer future challenges,” ” he explained.

Furthermore, this member of the DPR RI for the Cirebon-Indramayu City/Regency Electoral District highlighted the importance of increasing cooperation between the government, the business world and higher education to create a work ecosystem that supports innovation and industrial development.

“The government needs to encourage internship programs, vocational training and business incubators for the younger generation, as well as accelerate the development of digital infrastructure to open wider economic access,” he added.

Finally, Netty also emphasized the importance of labor regulations that are flexible but still protect workers’ rights.

“The DPR RI will continue to monitor and advocate for pro-people policies, including accelerating strategic steps in reducing unemployment, improving the quality of education, and encouraging the creation of quality jobs in all economic sectors,” he said. (H-3)
