After a Long Fight: The Death of Paul Di’Anno, Ex-Singer of Iron Maiden

Well, what’s this? The lead singer of a heavy metal band who was made famous for his transcendent vocals and love for… excessive *partying?* It seems the rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle claimed one of its champions—Paul Di’Anno, Iron Maiden’s original voice, has passed away at the ripe age of 66. The news comes to us confirmed by his record label and family via a statement on Facebook, which, let’s be honest, is probably where all of your deepest thoughts—along with your cat pictures—now reside.

Paul, born Paul Andrews, belted his way into the history books with Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut and its punky follow-up, Killers. But before you could say “excessive shenanigans,” he was out of the band in 1981, making way for Bruce Dickinson. Was he too wild for the band? Of course! This is heavy metal, not a knitting circle! In a reflective moment from a 2020 interview with Metal Hammer, Di’Anno admitted, “I don’t blame them for wanting to get rid of me.” I mean, fair play—if you find yourself in a revolving door of rock stars, sometimes you just have to stop spinning before you get dizzy and make bad life choices.

After leaving Maiden, he joined the band Gogmagog, because if you’re going to have a second act, why not team up with a former drummer and future guitarist from your previous band? Sounds like a metal reunion waiting to happen—even if he “strictly refused” to comment about his time with Iron Maiden. I mean, can we blame him? There’s only so much nostalgia a man can take, especially when the memory came with so many after-parties!

Now, let’s address the elephant in the room—Di’Anno had been battling health issues for years. The poor bloke was reportedly confined to a wheelchair but still performed over 100 concerts since 2023. If that doesn’t speak volumes about his dedication to his fans, I don’t know what will! Talk about a rock ‘n’ roll attitude—who needs legs when you’ve got lungs like that?

As we reflect on the life of a man who brought us some iconic songs and moments, let’s remember not just his music but his unapologetic embrace of life, liberty, and a good sing-along. So here’s to you, Paul Di’Anno—the heavy metal prophet, the party king, and a voice that will echo through the halls of rock forever! May you rest in peace, with a soundtrack of distorted guitars and killer riffs accompanying you on your journey. 🍻

After a long fight: Death of Paul Di’Anno, ex-singer of Iron Maiden

He was the lead singer of one of the greatest metal bands in music history. Paul Di’Anno died at the age of 66 after a long battle with illness.

Paul Di’Anno, Iron Maiden’s original singer, has died. His record company confirmed this in a statement on Facebook, on behalf of his family. The lead singer of the legendary metal band’s first two albums has died at the age of 66 at his home in Salisbury, England.

Di’Anno, whose real name is Paul Andrews, sang on Iron Maiden’s self-titled debut album as well as its follow-up “Killers.” Finally, he was replaced at the end of 1981 by Bruce Dickinson (66 years old) due to his excessive partying. The musician did not blame his colleagues for his ouster from Iron Maiden. “I don’t blame them for wanting to get rid of me,” he said in an interview with Metal Hammer in 2020.

He then joined Gogmagog as a vocalist, alongside former Iron Maiden drummer Clive Burr and future Iron Maiden guitarist Janick Gers. Later, he strictly refused to answer any questions regarding the group saying “No comment.”

The singer has suffered from health problems for several years. In a statement from his record label Conquest Music on Facebook, we read: “Despite having struggled with serious health issues in recent years, which left him confined to a wheelchair, Paul continued to entertaining fans around the world and has performed over 100 concerts since 2023.”
