Inferno at Slot Cranendonck: Mystery and Mayhem in a Mobile Home
Ah, the joys of camping! What better way to spend your holiday than lounging in a mobile home, surrounded by nature? But it seems like the only flames featuring in your camping trip should be the ones from your marshmallows—not from your accommodation! At the Slot Cranendonck holiday park in Soerendonk, a mobile home made headlines for all the wrong reasons after it became a massive bonfire at half past two in the morning. Talk about a wake-up call!
Lighting Up the Night
Now, guests at the park were the first to spot this unexpected nighttime entertainment. Perhaps they thought they’d been too generous with the champagne and were hallucinating? But no, when they alerted the authorities, they weren’t just indulging in a bit of late-night fun. The fire brigade arrived to find flames soaring like they were auditioning for the role of ‘hottest fire’ in a cooking show. A gas cylinder was also on set, and let’s just say, it’s not the kind of ‘fire starter’ you want for a cozy evening beside the fireplace!
Charred Memories
The mobile home was left in a state that even an insurance adjuster would look at and weep openly. There was little left of it aside from a sad charred skeleton. An extension and nearby shed were also victims of this fiery fiasco. And poor trees! One tree suffered a severe makeover, turning into something resembling a burnt-out matchstick. Nature’s one-piece ensemble gone horribly wrong!
The Neighbors Speak
In the midst of this inferno, one neighbor reported hearing “voices.” And no, we’re not talking about the latest season of Survivor. This neighbor described the ambiance just before the crash, likening it to a scene unfolding in a horror film. “It was completely orange!” she exclaimed. If her description doesn’t send shivers down your spine, maybe you’re not living in the real world!
No Campers Were harmed
Fortunately, there’s a sprinkle of good news. According to a campsite employee, it was a ‘ghost town’ in the chalets during the fiery showdown—no one was home. So, while the mobile home has made its grand exit, no camp-goers were harmed. Thank goodness! Can you imagine explaining that to your mum? “Sorry, but the mobile home I rented literally went up in flames!”
A Crime Scene?
But it gets even doughier! The police have labeled the scene as a crime scene, with forensic investigations lined up like contestants in a talent show. Arson remains a possibility, and fiendish pyromaniacs could be lurking in the shadows, plotting their next attempt to ignite some chaos. Witnesses are being heard—because obviously, everyone at the park is a detective now!
Concluding Thoughts
So, here’s the take-home message: if you’re planning a holiday, ensure your accommodations are flame-free, preferably with fewer surprises than a midnight bonfire. And if you hear voices in the night, well, maybe keep your marshmallows to yourself!
Let’s just hope the next time anyone thinks of “lighting up” their holiday, it involves a campfire, some songs, and not a mobile char grill!
A mobile home completely burned out at the Slot Cranendonck holiday park in Soerendonk, which falls under Peter Gillis. The fire was discovered by park guests around half past two in the morning. They immediately raised the alarm. The police are investigating the fire.
When the fire brigade arrived, flames were shooting meters high from the mobile home.
Gas bottle
Employees of the holiday park quickly guided the fire brigade to the right location. The fire brigade managed to secure a gas cylinder. Little was left of the mobile home itself.
The extension and a shed were also severely damaged by the sea of flames. Part of a nearby tree became blackened.
Woman heard voices
A neighbor heard voices around her chalet last night. “Not much later I heard a crash, as if something caught fire. I looked outside and everything was orange. It was completely on fire.”
According to a campsite employee, no one stayed in the chalet during the fire. “The chalets around it were also empty. There was no danger to the area, as far as I know.”
The employee does not know how the fire started. The police say that forensic investigation is still coming due to trace research. “This is now a crime scene,” police said.
Arson not excluded
The police cordoned off the area for investigation. Arson cannot be ruled out.
Witnesses are being heard.
