The handball association will consider changes after the Vipers crisis: – Taking a foot in the ground

– It’s just nitrite, Lio began to NTB.

However, hope is not lost for the Vipers. On Monday morning, it became known that a group of shareholders wants to take over the club and continue operations.

On Sunday evening, chairman Peter Gitmark announced that the club would tender on Monday. Thus, they are the second major Norwegian club to have a financial hit in the space of five years.

– How can something like that happen after the situation in Larvik a few years ago?

– There are two different issues and two different reasons, but that’s the way the world is, unfortunately. In the meeting between the professionals and the volunteers, things go wrong. And despite reminders, notices, warnings and a red category, they simply haven’t been able to turn it around, says Lio.

– Great to make ends meet

Larvik won the elite series 13 seasons in a row between 2004 and 2017 and also won the Champions League in the 2010/11 season. In February 2019, however, it stopped when they had a payment freeze introduced and were demoted to the 1st division.

– Do you have to make the financial regulations stricter or is it only those who have run on it?

– It could be both, but the regulations we have work for 30 other clubs, at least so far. These are demanding times. It is fierce to make ends meet, says Lio.

– Are you going to see anything about it now?

– Yes, we take a step back and see if there is anything we can do better.

The handball president clarifies that it is the guidelines that the elite series works according to that must be worked out.

Discusses Vipers consequences

The international handball federation (EHF) tells NTB that they are sorry for Vipers Kristiansand‘s bankruptcy petition, and that they will now decide what they want to do with their matches in the championship league.

– The European Handball Federation will now discuss the effects of the situation in the Champions League with all relevant stakeholder groups, they say and continue:

– A decision will be communicated in good time and before the weekend 9/10. November when the Champions League resumes after a three-week break.

The Vipers are in Group B and stand with five points after six group stage matches.
