Asunción, IP Agency.- Nicomedes Urbaéz is a member of the Healthy and Happy Life group for older adults and a student of dance therapy classes at the Sports Schools of the National Sports Secretariat (SND). In this Pink October, the secretariat shares its story.
Nico, as her teammates know her, joined the group in 2022 during the same time she was undergoing treatment for breast cancer.
“Sharing with my colleagues, the fact that they have always been attentive to me, has strengthened me a lot. He has become a very important support in my life with Professor Norman. “They have all been very excellent people,” he highlights.
Urbaéz is a Venezuelan migrant and highlighted the possibility of completing her studies in Paraguay for timely treatment. “Paraguay has been a blessing because I did almost all of my studies for free,” he said.
“The few days I went during the treatment, the support of the group strengthened me and made me return with more enthusiasm, sport unites you, feeds you, generates harmony and is fundamental for any human being,” he added. The student maintains that sport is a more than important therapeutic tool for people who fight against the disease.
It is worth noting that dance therapy in older adults reduces the risk of heart disease, in addition to strengthening the immune system, improving metabolic balance, cognitive function and perception.
Taking into account the important scope of the dance therapy classes for older adults promoted by the SND, this has become a valid space for raising awareness for citizens and therefore the SND also promotes sport as a tool for prevention and therapy against cancer.
