The French Ski Federation has unveiled the French selection for the first stage of the Alpine Ski World Cup, this weekend in Sölden. Cyprien Sarrazin, last winter’s star, will be present.
As tradition dictates, the Alpine Ski World Cup season will begin this last weekend of October with two giant slaloms near Sölden. A temperature of 6 to 8°C is expected in the Austrian resort, without wind or precipitation, and the International Ski Federation gave the green light last week. In the last two years, only one race has taken place during the weekend, with poor weather conditions preventing the women’s race from taking place in 2022 and the men’s race in 2023. Let’s hope that both can take place this year… This Monday , the French Ski Federation has revealed the lucky ones who will hit the slopes of Sölden this weekend. While waiting for Alexis Pinturault’s return to competition, scheduled for early December in Beaver Creek, Cyprien Sarrazin will be the leader of the Blues. The skier, just 30 years old, winner in particular of the descents of Bormio and Kitzbühel last winter, will come to get his bearings in giant, a discipline where he has not had a Top 10 since January 2022. Sarrazin will be accompanied by Mathieu Faivre (32 years old)former giant world champion but also unable to finish in the Top 10 since January 2022. Victor Muffat Jeandet (35 years old) will try to finally finish a giant, he who often gave up or was disqualified last season. Thibaut Favrot (29 ans)who had achieved his best result of the season in giant in Sölden a year ago (10th) will try to do as well. Léo Anguenot (26 years old) will aim for a Top 15, while Diego Orecchioni (24 years) and Flavio Vitale (19 years) will try to be classified for the first time in a World Cup giant.

On the women’s side, the French delegation will be much smaller, since there will only be three of them to start the first round on Saturday morning. Clara Direz (29 years old) will be the most experienced and remains in two Top 10s during the last two giants of last season. Caitlin McFarlane (22 ans)born in Australia to Australian-English parents but arrived in France at 3 years old, will begin her second World Cup season, after having had a best result of 23rd place at the giant of Jasna last January. Finally, June Brand (19 ans)born in Switzerland but who has always skied in France, will make her debut in the world skiing elite.
