Al-Sabbagh discusses with Al-Safadi efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis and combat drug smuggling across the borders of the two countries

The two ministers stressed the intensification of cooperation in confronting this danger through the Jordanian-Syrian Joint Committee for Cooperation in Combating Cross-Border Drug Smuggling, which began its work in July of last year.

They agreed to launch a continuing dialogue on efforts to facilitate the voluntary return of Syrian refugees. Al-Safadi stressed that the solution to the refugee issue is their return to their homeland, but the international community must continue to bear its responsibilities towards them until this is achieved.

Al-Safadi and Al-Sabbagh also agreed to discuss all bilateral files through a meeting of the relevant ministers at a date determined by both sides as soon as possible.

The two ministers affirmed continued cooperation in efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis through the Arab Liaison Committee, in order to advance concrete practical steps in accordance with the principles, frameworks and methodology approved by the Amman Statement on May 1 last year.

Regarding the regional issue, the two ministers stressed the need for immediate action by the international community to stop the Israeli aggression against Gaza and Lebanon and the dangerous escalation against the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank and to end the humanitarian catastrophe caused by the aggression.

Today, Al-Assad received Al-Safadi, who conveyed to him a verbal message from Jordanian King Abdullah II, which dealt with a number of bilateral issues, and efforts to resolve the Syrian crisis and address all its consequences, especially the refugee issue and the danger of drug smuggling.

Al-Safadi stressed that resolving the Syrian crisis, ensuring Syria’s unity, cohesion and sovereignty, realizing the aspirations of its people, restoring its security, well-being and stability, and creating conditions for the voluntary return of refugees, is a regional necessity that Jordan is continuously working to achieve.

The meeting also discussed ways to develop bilateral relations.
