The Lower Alpine departmental councilors were called upon to adopt a motion relating to the financing of the medicalization of the gendarmerie helicopter on Friday during the plenary session. “We are the only mountain department not to have a helicopter, underlined Éliane Barreille, president of the Departmental Council. We urge the ARS to release the modest funds necessary to safeguard the armament of the medical helicopter positioned in Digne-les-Bains‘”. In this case, in 2023, this aid was €150,000. For the 2024 financial year, the Dignois hospital center requested €200,000.

Since 2021, the Digne-les-Bains hospital center has been carrying out a project to medicalize the gendarmerie helicopter based there. “The director of the regional hospital group informed me that no notification of credits had been made to him“, worries Éliane Barreille. She details: “This unique device in France is of vital use for the inhabitants of Alpes-de-Haute-Provence. By the association of mountain rescue doctors, Sdis 04 (Departmental fire and rescue service, Editor’s note) hospital practitioners, the gendarmerie and the Departmental Council, we have built an emergency health response adapted to the territory and the needs of our fellow citizens. The absence of financial support from the ARS (Regional Health Agency, Editor’s note) would be dramatic for its inhabitants“.
