During the last few hours, tropical storm Oscar has remained very slowly moving over the eastern region of Cuba, it has moved slightly to the west with a speed of only 4 kilometers per hour and the strongest nuclei of precipitation still remain. on the province of Guantánamo.

Oscar has continued to weaken and now its maximum sustained winds have decreased to 85 kilometers per hour, so it remains a tropical storm. Its minimum central pressure has risen to 999 hectopascals.

The center of the tropical storm at six in the morning was estimated at 20.2 degrees North latitude and 75.1 degrees West longitude, a position that places it 15 kilometers east-northeast of the city of Guantánamo and 45 kilometers south-southeast of Sagua. from Tánamo, Holguín.

Oscar will continue its slow movement with a course close to the west with a similar translational speed and should gradually tilt its trajectory towards the west-northwest today.

In the provinces of Guantánamo, Holguín; Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas continue to experience rain, showers and thunderstorms. The highest rainfall, according to the network of stations of the Institute of Meteorology, has been reported in the municipalities of Maisí, Baracoa and San Antonio del Sur in the province of Guantánamo.

In the last three hours, the most significant accumulation was reported at the Caujerí Valley meteorological station with 278.0 millimeters, as well as at the Moa Dam, Holguín with 131.0 millimeters.

In the next few hours, rains, showers and thunderstorms will continue affecting much of the eastern region, which will become strong and intense in some localities and in mountainous areas.

In the eastern provinces, tropical storm force winds will continue, which can reach speeds between 70 and 85 kilometers per hour, with higher gusts.

Strong storm surges will continue to occur on the northern coast of the provinces of Guantánamo, Holguín and Las Tunas. Moderate to strong coastal flooding will continue in low areas of this coastline, including the Baracoa seawall.

The greatest attention should be paid in the eastern provinces to the evolution and future trajectory of Tropical Storm Oscar, in particular to the occurrence of intense rains, which may cause flooding in these provinces.

The next tropical cyclone warning will be issued at nine in the morning today.
