Billboards thanking Joko Widodo (Jokowi) are often found on several streets in Jakarta. Apart from billboards on several streets in Jakarta, the narrative of Jokowi’s thanks is also circulating massively on social media.

Responding to this, political observer from Al-Azhar University Indonesia, Ujang Komarudin, assessed that the billboard with the narrative of thanking Jokowi was made by Jokowi’s supporters themselves.

According to him, the aim of Jokowi’s supporters in making these billboards was only to build an image of Jokowi who was considered successful by his supporters during his time as President.

“In politics, Jokowi is considered successful, so that Jokowi is considered successful, so that Jokowi is considered a good president. So the aim is to build education until the end of the day,” said Ujang when contacted, Sunday (20/10).

Ujang said that Jokowi’s supporters should not have done this. According to him, it is the public who has the right to judge whether Jokowi’s leadership was good or not while he was President.

“Actually, there’s no need to do something like this. Whether it’s good or not, there’s advertising or not, it’s up to the public to judge,” he said.

“Don’t make it seem like the Indonesian people are saying thank you to Jokowi, even though it was his supporters who designed it so that Jokowi would be seen as doing a good and successful job,” he added.

The same thing was conveyed by political observer Hendri Satrio, according to him, the many billboards installed on every street in Jakarta with the narrative of Jokowi’s thanks were only to improve Jokowi’s image.

“The billboard installation is so that his (Jokowi’s) image is positive,” said Hendri.

He said that there should be no need to do this, because according to him, without printing billboards like that, people would already be grateful to Jokowi.

“Pak Jokowi should expect sincere thanks, not printed thanks together. Because I am sure that the Indonesian people, without printing billboards, are already grateful to Jokowi,” he said. (Fic/P-2)
