Students sitting in a classroom learning the content at a single pace for everyone. This is the image we have of traditional education, but there are those who encourage the application of other methodologies ‒ among them, personalized education aligned with digital inclusion.

In this concept, the aim is to transform the educational experience, adjusting the pace and learning style of each student, in order to improve academic performance and promote more efficient and engaging teaching. Bernard Caffé, CEO of the education and technology company Jovens Gênios, explains it.

“Personalization in education is not a new idea, but current technological tools have enabled significant advances in this field. The use of digital platforms, artificial intelligence and data analysis are some of the resources that enable more adaptive teaching and focused on the specific needs of each student”, says Caffé.

The expert cites artificial intelligence applications that offer personalized tutoring and feedback. According to him, learning management software (LMS) also stands out, which facilitate the organization of individualized curricula, separating areas and content per student.

“These tools allow for more student-centered teaching, also understanding that they are holders of knowledge, better meeting their abilities and contributing to the teaching-learning process”, he explains.

To illustrate the concept, Caffé mentions the example of the platform developed by Jovens Gênios, which uses advanced algorithms to analyze student performance in real time. From there, the activities and content are adjusted according to each person’s learning pace.

“This is specifically relevant in contexts of cultural, social and economic diversity, where standardization may fail to meet the specific needs of different groups,” explains Caffé.

“Furthermore, by adapting teaching to individual needs, schools can significantly improve learning results, promote greater student engagement and reduce school dropout rates, thus contributing to a more effective educational system”, adds the expert.

He, however, recognizes that digital inclusion ‒ which drives this model of personalized education ‒ is still a challenge for Brazil. In the country, 62% of public schools use the internet for teaching activities and only 29% have equipment for students.

Furthermore, only 11% of schools have a connection speed considered adequate, reveals the research Overview of Internet Quality in Brazilian Public Schoolsreleased by the Ponto BR Information and Coordination Center.

The expert highlights that a successful transition to the personalized education model requires investment and a paradigm shift in teaching.

“Despite the obstacles, personalized education represents a significant evolution in the educational field, providing a more student-centered and potentially more effective approach”, considers Caffé.
